About this deal

This was a hilarious combination of Ito's normal horror art style mixed with the comedy of having two cats with VERY different personalities. You see Ito is a Horror Artist, and I use capital letters there because he takes it a step beyond what most can pull off.

Their contributions consist of Ito's comic, "Yon Went to Heaven," and his wife's letter chronicling the death of Yon from heart failure on 3 February 2011, about a month before the earthquake, and their subsequent grieving.

But he soon finds himself lured in by the cuteness and wants the cat to love him as much as it does his wife. Eventually, unable to cope with her coy flirtation and their desire to possess Tomie completely, they are inevitably compelled to kill her — only to discover that, regardless of the method they chose to dispose of her body, her body will always regenerate.

Reigning king of horror manga Junji Ito presents a series of hissterical tales chronicling his real-life trials and tribulations of becoming a cat owner. Much of the humor comes from ominous set ups, actions that in his other comics would lead to gruesome murders or hauntings instead pay off with a joke. Ito’s chosen style is central to the hilarity of his stories: J-kun’s bulging, bloodshot eyes; A-ko’s pupil-less ones that make her seems more zombie than human. It received generally positive reviews from critics, who enjoyed it as a cat-centered manga whose humor was derived from the emphasis on the behavior of the cat caretaker, rather than the cat.Appearing as a serial in Kodansha's seinen manga magazine Monthly Magazine Z from November 2007 to December 2008, it follows the adventures of J-kun, a horror manga artist as he adjusts to life with cats: Yon, whom his fiancėe brings along to their new house, and Mu, a Norwegian Forest cat whom the couple adopts as a kitten. A-ko's appearance, with her almost entirely white eyes, has also been noted to share similarities with yokai, supernatural Japanese entities.
