About this deal

Seller sent the wrong item, but the wrong book has a very similar cover and seller addressed problem very quickly. Although annoyed, I must say this seller is very professional and refunded my purchase promptly, in a most courteous manner--somewhat remarkably for such a small dollar amount.

By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. CHARACTERS: Marvel Anatomy: A Scientific Study of the Superhuman reveals the anatomy of more than sixty fan-favourite Marvel characters, including Spider-Man, the Hulk, Thanos, Mystique, the Thing, Squirrel Girl, Venom, and Groot. Now on sale from Insight Editions, the book takes place during a Skrull invasion, leading King T'Challa and his brilliant sister Shuri to scour Wakanda's scientific archives for information to assess which Super Heroes and Super Villains are most vulnerable. They wanted us to believe that even the mightiest of Marvel’s champions could burst off the page and exist alongside us.Along the way, they'll discover the unique anatomical makeup of many characters in the Marvel Universe, all while unlocking the secrets behind their fantastical abilities. JONAH LOBE: I think the key to selling these farfetched ideas is to ground them in real world detail. That was something I tried to keep in mind while writing this book, finding ways to ground even the most fantastical powers in some semblance of reality.

Since her inception, Jocasta has served as an advocate for treating artificial life-forms with compassion and respect. When Skrull forces use their shape-shifting powers to infiltrate Earth’s defenses, King T’Challa must delve into Wakanda’s scientific archives to determine which Super Heroes and Super Villains might be most at risk. Published May 9, 2022 See Super Heroes in a New Light by Dissecting Their Physiology with 'Marvel Anatomy: A Scientific Study of the Superhuman' Discover the secrets behind the powers of Marvel’s greatest characters through stunning anatomical cutaway illustrations and in-depth commentary from the Black Panther and Shuri! Even Jocasta, who’s not monstrous at all, felt vaguely mythic to me, and being able to demonstrate how her distinctive metal “hair” is actually just an extension of her supercomputer-brain—such a unique opportunity! COM: What was one of the most surprising "discoveries" you made as you were putting this book together?

A SPECTACULAR ADDITION TO YOUR COMICS LIBRARY: This book joins Insight Editions’ exciting line of Marvel Comics titles, including Marvel: Avengers Campus: The Official Cookbook and Magic of Marvel Oracle Deck.

Prepare to explore the Marvel Universe like never before in Marvel Anatomy: A Scientific Study of the Superhuman. Though it resembles rock, I have wondered whether the Thing's body armor could be a fibrous protein similar to keratin. Painting a cutaway of Abomination gave me all the high-octane power of a Hulk while also providing me an opportunity to justify why, exactly, his bones are all overgrown (the answer is to provide more room for muscle).

Loosening any of the Thing's stony plates requires a tremendous amount of applied force, and only a blow delivered by a being with the Hulk's level of strength can dislodge one. A biological base for his silicate shell would explain why the Thing can grow new plates, and arthropod exoskeletons provide examples of similar structures that have arisen from biological evolution. There’s just so much to explore when it comes to Bruce Banner, from his radiation-infused musculature to the different manifestations of his abilities depending on which of his identities is in charge.

MARC SUMERAK: One of the great things about writing a book like this from the perspectives of established characters in the Marvel Universe, like T’Challa and Shuri, is that you can tap into their experiences to help bring the narrative to life. Unlike the other members of the Fantastic Four, the Thing experienced a gruesome metamorphosis that instantly rendered him an outcast in human society.

This fall, further expand your mind on what you think you know of Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains with Marvel Anatomy: A Scientific Study of the Superhuman, as collected by Black Panther and Shuri themselves. How did you elevate that to fit the larger-than-life nature of Marvel Super Heroes without making it feel too farfetched? Discover the secrets behind the powers of Marvel’s greatest characters through stunning anatomical cutaway illustrations and in-depth commentary from the Black Panther and Shuri. Then, together with Salim Busuru—a spectacular Kenyan artist, well-versed in afrofuturism—we interspersed the book with beautiful designs and a collection of completely original African-inspired masks, one for each chapter in the book. Getting to examine the various heroes and villains through the eyes of the Panther meant we could lean into T’Challa’s previous relationships and encounters to help form his opinions on each subject.
