For anyone taking a Metaphysics course, or even anyone interested in getting involved in the conversation, I would highly recommend van Inwagen's introductory text. If you are anything like me, you'll instantly realize that sentences about metaphysics never fully grasp the point you intended to make. van Inwagen gives a nice introductory sampling of the most commonly discussed issues in metaphysics including free will, existence, causality, and others.The introduction to the text gives a fair representation to the way that the book is written, and van Inwagen throws some humor around throughout the whole thing. He treats both sides with respect, but doesn't try to bull shit anyone by not picking a side -- you know exactly where he stands on most of the material that he is presenting you with.
