About this deal

The 1800 Tequila brand was formed as a subset of Jose Cuervo in 1975. Produced at the same facility and using the same materials as the famous Jose Cuervo tequila, this brand was designed to produce a superior sipping spirit for the higher end market. The 1800 date comes from the first year when oak barrels were first used to age tequila. Product It is made, bottled and aged at Jose Cuervo’s distillery, by the same expert craftsman and Tequila makers.

Reserva is the new Reserva Añejo that promises a softer more rounded agave flavour, it is this Tequila which represents the Jose Cuervo’s “Old World” style of Tequila-making: The 1800 Anejo is 100% agave, and aged for one year in oak barrels, and 1808 Reserva is a blend of 99.1% agave (a higher percentage of agave than the 1800), aged in smaller barrels.Despite its appeal, it sacrifices agave essence, making it fall short compared to other Extra Añejo Tequilas preserving agave through extended aging. In terms of aging, the four main types of tequila are Blanco (0-59 days), Reposado (60+ days), Añejo (1-3 years), and Extra Añejo (3+ years). Blanco tequilas do not spend time aging in oak, whereas the other three categories do. This tequila is suspiciously dark. Usually an anejo tequila maxes out somewhere in the light golden to amber color range, but this is almost a solid brown. It is entirely possible that those older expressions blended in have changed the color, but it’s probable that the artificial coloring is bringing some “unnatural enhancement” to the end result. It is essential to ensure that you choose Tequila labeled as “100% agave” to guarantee the best quality. This is a smooth Tequila, delivered in a large, test tube-style bottle. It is very much for sipping, and is a really special Tequila. Most Tequilas you see in liquor stores are unaged as they were bottled right after distillation; they are known as Blanco or Silver Tequila. Especially with something this dark and beautiful (artificial coloring notwithstanding), being able to see the spirit through the glass is something I appreciate.
