About this deal

Following five star-studded, record-breaking seasons (at the Gielgud, Noël Coward, Criterion and Lyric Theatres); three Olivier Nominations including Best New Play and winning the Best New Play category in the Whatsonstage awards, this supernatural thriller has become a certified West End must-see.

Ben ( Champ) provided some light-hearted relief through the intense production, and has the ability to make the audience laugh at every opportunity. However, the star of the show for me was Sophia Bush. Her take on Lauren was my favourite portrayal of the character I've seen. She is able to portray Lauren's mental health issues and drinking problem in such a raw and honest way. Among several unintentionally funny lines, Sam barks at one point that “this isn’t the Exorcist!”; truer words were never spoken. I’ve sort of found this niche now. One newspaper described me as the ‘go-to ghost guy,’” Robins says with a laugh. “That’s fine. The ghosts have been good to me.”

Keep up to date

It’s hard to write a review for this production without giving anything away, so I won’t go into the story at all. These things - someone is walking, someone is crying happen at precisely 2:22 at night. Creepy. And she needs to protect her baby from whatever it is. Bosanquet, Theo (9 June 2021). "Lily Allen to make West End debut in Danny Robins' 2:22 – A Ghost Story". WhatsOnStage.com . Retrieved 23 July 2023.

We’re at a dinner party and we never actually leave the kitchen, but with a baby sleeping upstairs, characters nipping ‘outside’ from the sliding doors, into the bathroom and to the shops, you’ve got to be eagle-eyed at all times. In the interval, there’s a lot of questioning – “did you see that?” and “did you notice this?”. But the detail is all in Danny’s script. Everything leads up to a huge twist (which of course we won’t spoil for you) at the end – and what a twist that is! The mounting sense of dread is relentless... Robins – the creator of hit podcast The Battersea Poltergeist – is well-versed in what makes scary stories scary, and uses that to brilliant effect here' Independent I'll tell you just a few details. Julia has a baby and as we know emotions fly high, when new mums have sleep deprivation and overwhelmed with the mothering love.Spine-chilling, funny and scary, Danny Robins' play 2:22 was premiered at the Noël Coward Theatre in London's West End in August 2021, directed by Matthew Dunster, and starring Lily Allen, Julia Chan, Hadley Fraser and Jake Wood. It went on to win Best New Play at the 2022 WhatsOnStage Awards, and was nominated for Best New Play at the Olivier Awards.

Julia is trying to explain to her hubby and their friends, who are visiting for dinner, that the house is haunted. They are debating, arguing, her husband being very sceptical. Those foxes noises in their bacl yard are hotrible. I have them too by the way, totally creepy even if you don't believe in ghosts. Did they find out about the ghost. I can't tell you. Hille is an alarming, bristlingly military presence; Gloria Obianyo is subtly anxious as Neoptolemus. At the centre, Sharp is tremendous. She has – in everything from TV’s Scott & Bailey to the National’s Harper Regan – long been magnetic. Now she moves to another physical extreme. Her speaking is pebbly, exact. Her movements are taut. Spare, slightly bent, she brilliantly plants the suggestion that her body itself is a bow. Jake Wood – Max Branning from EastEnders – swaggers very enjoyably in stubble and a baby-blue suit provides rich opportunities for any drama group wanting to make things go bump in the night – and their audiences scream. Chan was hooked from the first time she read what Robins had concocted: "I read the script and the first thing I said was that, no matter how it works out, I have to be in the audience for this. It's so effective and affecting as a ghost story. I was at home and finished it and had to run out of the house to follow my husband down the street (he was taking our baby for a walk) and just screamed: 'This thing is so [bleeping] good!'." Stewart, Zachary (3 October 2022). "Cast Set for 2:22 – A Ghost Story at Center Theatre Group". Theater Mania. Los Angeles . Retrieved 23 July 2023.Spoilers alert! Nah, just kidding. Remember The Mousetrap where at the end of the play the audience is asked ro keep a secret about how the story unravels. The plot of the play revolves around Sam, an astronomer and know-it-all – played by Elliot Cowan (who is likeable/unlikeable and a bit annoying!) Sam believes he has the answer to everything, specifically in the plot of the play as we are talking about the existence of ghosts: Sam does not believe in them. A third West End engagement at the Criterion Theatre, from 10 May to 4 September 2022, was announced without a casting confirmation. [6] On 29 March 2022, the new cast was announced, starring Tom Felton as Sam, Mandip Gill as Jenny, Beatriz Romilly as Lauren and Sam Swainsbury as Ben. [7] On 11 August 2022, an extension of the engagement at the Criterion was announced starring Laura Whitmore as Jenny, Felix Scott as Sam, Matt Willis as Ben and Tamsin Carroll as Lauren, running from 6 September to 8 January 2023. [8] While the cast is small, Jenny ( Winstone) leads the narrative and tells it so grippingly, that it almost feels awkward. So much so, that you feel as though you're watching her tell the story through her kitchen window. She's passionate, believable, and what I love most about the character of Jenny, is that she's relatable. Sam ( Samuel) has an air of arrogance around him which he plays extremely well, and his comedic timing was amazing. Eastenders’ Louisa Lytton deserves a special applause for her portrayal of Jenny, while It’s A Sin’s Nathaniel Curtis and Doc Martin’s Joe Absolom’s comedic timing has the audience laughing throughout. The combination of Danny’s brilliantly funny writing and fascinating ghost stories mean 2:22 A Ghost Story is almost an amalgamation of all of his work so far. We’d love to see how the ever-changing West End casts made their mark on his characters.

Do not be fooled by any review that gives it more than one star, it was, by far, the worse production I have ever seen. I tried to think of one positive aspect of the night and I couldn't. Following five record-breaking seasons at the Noël Coward, Gielgud, Criterion, The Lyric Theatre and The Apollo Theatre, this critically acclaimed new play has become the UK’s must-see theatre event. The Czech premiere production opened on 8 September 2023 in Prague’s Drama Club, directed by Braňo Holiček. It features Romana Widenková as Jenny, Markéta Stehlíková as Lauren, Václav Šanda as Sam and Jan Hájek as Ben. [21] Plot [ edit ] The characters took me a few moments to align with. They initially felt quite 2 dimensional, but you soon realise that there is more to them than you first suspect.

TRENDING

On 7 December 2022, the cast for its fourth West End engagement was announced.
