Cache is also more than doubled, with 18MB total cache, 16MB of which is L3. That's compared to the 8MB of L3 cache found on the Ryzen 3 2300X and the 6MB of cache found on the Intel Core i3-9100. This should help boost gaming performance, and when you're at this tier of the CPU market, every little bit of CPU performance you can get, the better. We've already talked about the performance you can expect from the Ryzen 3 3100 in our review of the Ryzen 3 3300X, as we tested both at the same time. The 3100 lags behind its slightly more expensive sibling in pretty much every test, and doesn't fare quite so well against the quad-core, eight-thread Intel Core i7 7700K we used for comparison, although the difference isn't awful here either. The Zen 2 desktop CPUs use a chiplet design with up to two chiplets and an I/O die under the heat sink. Threadripper and Epyc CPUs can have up to four chiplets. Each chiplet can have up to eight cores, which are divided into two CCXs that house up to four cores, with each CCX having 16 MB of L3 cache available. Adobe Premiere is next. This is a render benchmark using real videos we’ve made for our channel, including a 1080p60 convention video and a 4K60 set of broll. If you do work on YouTube and your videos are somewhat similar to ours in concept, you can easily draw conclusions from our results. The POV-Ray benchmark is a synthetic, highly threaded rendering test that offers a second opinion on the Cinebench results. This test uses ray tracing to render a three-dimensional image. (Note that it doesn't use the ray tracing features of Nvidia's RTX-class GPUs; this is purely CPU grunt at play here.) However, gaming performance is a different story. The Intel Core i5-9600K provides excellent value when it comes to gaming, even though it costs nearly twice as much as the Ryzen 3 3100. So, while in our benchmarks, single core performance is only around 10% slower, that isn't reflected in actual games. Based on our evaluation of using AMD's Ryzen 3 4100 CPU for gaming, you can expect mediocre game performance with a high-performance CPU cooler. The Blender test, as run with our test file, is useful mostly for highlighting the vast differences between low-end and high-end chips, and the similarities between chips within these two categories. At E3 2019, Microsoft revealed that its follow up to the Xbox, Project Scarlett, will be powered by a custom SoC made of a Zen 2 processor and an AMD Navi GPU. Slated for a "Holiday 2020" release, Project Scarlett is rumored to be four times more powerful than the Xbox One X having the ability to run games at 120FPS and potentially 8K resolutions. As an all-core rendering benchmark, the Handbrake test is a great indicator of generally how well a processor will handle tasks like video editing, video rendering, and video conversion. These kinds of apps tend to munch on all the cores and threads they can get in their teeth. To read the full explanation of what this launch means for budget creators and gamers alike, head on over to our Ryzen 3 3300X review to find out more. We've broken down lots more about the platform nuances there. Intel vs. AMD Comparison As you can see the Ryzen 3 3100 and 3300X do well in the bandwidth tests with one outlier Write test score is about half of what you would expect. This was covered earlier in the Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 7 3700 X review. As usual, they both have fairly high latency when compared to the Intel offerings due in large part to AMD’s use of separate cores and I/O dies.

At every level, AMD Ryzen 3rd Generation brings better performance and concurrently lowers power consumption over the previous generation. Of course, AMD boasted some benchmarks where it flexed on the competition, but that’s par for the course. Heit JA, Silverstein MD, Mohr DN, Petterson TM, O'Fallon WM, Melton LJ III. Risk factors for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism: a population-based case-control study. Arch Intern Med. 2000;160(6):809–15.At the moment of this writing, Intel's closest match for the Ryzen 3 3100 is the Core i3-9100, a four-core and (crucially) only four-thread CPU, which we ran some CPU tests on alongside this Ryzen 3 model. In both gaming and content creation, AMD believes it has the upper hand in certain games and applications, but will this ring true once we throw the chip in our testbed and start putting it through its paces? Let's find out... Performance Testing: CPU
