About this deal

As with all Serge Lutens fragrances, the brand doesn’t share official notes, but Parfumo lists the most accurate note listing: Amber, Angelica Root, Benzoin, Coriander, Labdanum, Bay leaf, Myrtle, Oregano, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Styrax, Tolu balm, and Vanilla.

Amber is more than just a fragrance note. Strongly associated with religious smells, its aroma moves us. Amber tells a story. Reminiscent of a piece of amber wax found by Serge Lutens at random while strolling through the souks of Marrakech, forgotten in a cedar box and found years later, it marks the return to the identity and authenticity of raw materials. In the dry-down Ambre Sultan devolves into a modern amber composition with traces of aromatic herbs, and nutty beeswax with minor muskiness that sits on top of vanilla. In 1985, Calvin Klein brought is one of their now-iconic perfumes that has never waned in its popularity. This is a scent for a classy woman who loves a timeless perfume that is both versatile and unique. The well-known story of Serge Lutens finding a wooden box containing amber wax in Marrakech starts to unfold here. The only mentioned woody note in the fragrance is sandalwood, but it ain’t that. The amber and rose complement each other beautifully and look like the kind of happy couple who never argue. What are your thoughts about Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan ? Have you tried it? Do you like it?Let’s start a conversation and let me know in the comment section below. When you look at the bottle of this perfume, you are reminded of a beautiful Arabian princess; it just feels regal and classy. The Oriental Floral fragrance was released in 2018 and offers something that cannot be found elsewhere. As per perfumer Abdussalaam Attar: "Ambergris is a pheromone molecule, and is traditionally used in ayurveda and unani medecine as are used other pheromones such as muskdeer, civet and castoreum. Civet and ambergris are like the smell of a woman. Because of its very high price, Ambergris is nearly not used anymore in perfumery, where it has been replaced by the synthetic molecule ambreina." Talking of amber, it's a time-hardened resin of Pinus succinifera and other trees. In perfumery it is a fantasy note that is primarily inspired by the resin's golden color and brilliance. Not coming from the real resin, it is a rather basic accord of labdanum, vanilla and benzoin which adds sweetness and warmth to fragrances and this is mostly used in oriental, chypre and fougère compositions.

Despite the price (around 14€ for a 30ml bottle), this is a long-lived fragrance on my skin with more than decent projection. It has a gourmand side but feels more like a sweet oriental with milky shades. The musk is evident and it explodes like a cloud of radiant sweet carnal notes. Despite being sweet and ambery, Amber Romance is a good summer fragrance due to a strange effect brought by an aquatic note that does not spoil the character of the composition but prevents it from being heavy. Even the body lotion is rich and highly perfumed so when used in complement it will make you smell good, sexy and yummy for a whole day, filling the room with resinous candied whiffs of desire. It's arguably the best scent I have ever smelled from Victoria's Secret. Some of the world’s most famous designer perfumes have amber at their base, so when you are looking for a perfume that smells like amber, you won’t need to look far. We have searched far and wide to bring you a comprehensive list of some of the best amber based perfumes for men and women. About The Amber Scent Smelling Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan for the first time is a whole other perfume experience. Initially released in 1993, and becoming widely available in 2000, the perfumer Christopher Sheldrake set a new standard for how should amber fragrances smell. Fragrance profile of aged ambergris: Salty, musky, sweet with a hint of tobacco leaf, leather-like and possesses an animalic marine scent. Why does it smell slightly like an amber oud typical scent with an animal note, though? I don’t know. Life is strange.

Amber appears in many great fragrances as the lead or as a supporting role. Amber doesn’t mind. Its beautiful scent brightens up everything. In ideal conditions, I could smell this one even after showering, and the next day. Don’t overspray, and keep the number of applications to a lower level since the initial projection, and sillage can get the wrong kind of attention from your coworkers or new people you meet. I’m yet to receive a compliment or a comment of any kind regarding this one, and this is understandable. It is not one of those easy-to-wear designers or niche perfumes.

Perfumer Anya McCoy says: "I have used ambergris in many of my perfumes. I have some tinctures that are eight years old. The scent of ambergris varies according to the type it is, as there are many grades with different scents. Mostly it is described as marine, hay, slightly fecal, warm, creamy. And the scent of it is only part of the equation: more important is the transformative properties it brings to the perfume formula. It 'marries' and exalts the other aromatics in a way no other substance does. The ambergris doesn't even have to be perceptible in the perfume. " According to perfumer Abdussalaam Attar, "In perfumery all sweet resinous things are amber note, you can count in them Tonka, Peru Balsam, Tolu Balsam, Benzoin, Labdanum and cistus for example. You may add to blends of these scents subtle notes of Almond, tobacco, vanilla for instance. Amber in perfumery is a subjective scent, it is a note, not an essence." This is a unisex Oriental Vanilla fragrance that is sweet and enticing. It has a unique blend of scents, which sets it apart from other fragrances, making it ideal as a signature. It is also extremely diverse and can be worn year-round for varied experiences. Separated from the first weeks of his mother, his personality will be marked from then on by the feeling of an original abandonment. Constantly torn between two families, he lives at a distance and invents himself. He’s a dreamer. At the Montesquieu school, he is said to be “in the moon”: he does not follow, even if his teachers recognize him as a storyteller. At the head, we notice vanilla, basil. Bergamot and lemon; it is fresh and sweet. The heart blends sandalwood, rose, cedar and jasmine before drying down to an amber and vetiver base. One spray of this will get you noticed, thanks to its potency and heady trail. It would indeed work well as a signature scent. 11. Euphoria Amber Gold Men by Calvin Klein

Accordng to a source, " In 1820 two French chemists, Joseph-Bienaimé Carentou and Pierre-Joseph Pelletier first isolated, characterized and named ambrein, the principal active fragrant ingredient of ambergris. Since then a great deal has been published on the chemistry of compounds with an ambergris-like scent, especially the more fragrant oxidative derivatives of ambrein like ambrox. They are all labdanoid terpenes which occur in a remarkable variety of plants, animals and microorganisms. Sources like Monarda didyma L. (bee-balm, a source of labdanum extract) are a natural substitute for ambergris and Cistus ladanifer L. is a classical source of labdanum. These and other botanical extracts are the base for fixatives and woody, sweet fragrances in the modern perfumery industry which, for the most part, uses synthetics in place of natural substances." Ambre Sultan is an aromatic oriental fragrance for men and women. The perfumer behind this fragrance is Christopher Sheldrake, and it was launched in 1993, and 2000 worldwide. To my nose, the time the scent starts to meld into the heart notes, the scent experience is more of an aged oak barrel containing fine Scottish whiskey, and that is coming from the cistus note that comes from the same plant as labdanum. Amber is a widely used scent in the perfume industry, and many people are enamored by its luxurious fragrance. This scent will work well with a variety of others; you will likely notice that it is used in many of your favorite scents.

Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb

Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan is marketed as a unisex perfume, and I wholeheartedly agree with this choice. Mature scent DNA, but also wearable for anyone younger than 30 with an acquired taste. Amber "attars" (and amber fragrances in general really) can take different guises, from the animalic via predominant labdanum notes and hints of civet, through woody with patchouli additions to sweeten, all the way to powdery vanillic. Ambre by Madini is a straightforward "retro" style, honeyed & darkish-balsamic amber, vaguely reminiscent of Elie Saab's Ambre Essence and the cult incense-y Ambra del Nepal by Il Profumo di Firenze. In 1967, Christian Dior, who was about to launch his make-up line, called on him. He will create for this house colors, style, and images. His vision is finally unified by photography. At the start of the 1970s, the famous editor-in-chief of US Vogue, Diana Vreeland, did not hesitate to proclaim her enthusiasm: “Serge Lutens, Revolution of Make-up!”. The success is resounding. Serge Lutens becomes the symbol of freedom given by make-up for a whole new generation. In 1974, echoing his taste for cinema and the mythical actresses who inhabit it, he directed a short film: “Les Stars”. At that time, he traveled and discovered Morocco and then Japan. These two countries, with such rich and different cultures, will come together in him and will affirm his way of seeing and feeling. I could tell you about the properties of fossilized amber, but I won’t. Amber deserves more than chemistry lessons. Amber deserves to be experienced. Amber oil smells like benzoin, tonka bean, labdanum, and beeswax. “Arabic Nights” smell like amber.
