Falk tells Jamie that someone accessed the records room and had taken Angelmaker material using the identity of her father's partner on the case Robert Nystrom but he was seen going through a tollbooth one hundred kilometres away at the time of the breach and now he's missing. What will Katie do? Can she save her brother by uncovering the big mystery he's gotten himself into, finding the identity of the man who drives a red car and stalks around their neighborhood, and connecting the puzzle pieces to reveal the truth about her past? Are all of these mysteries connected? Was Hans Sjoberg wrongly convicted? Do they now have a copycat killer on their hands? Will Jamie and Wiik be able to solve what's a very complex case?

I will note, especially in contrast to a number of other recently read books that pour on the cultural-referencing humor, that Harkaway manages to stay true to the emotion of the book and the family drama at its heart. He also does some interesting things with sexuality, which rather bothered me at first, until I realized he seemed to be turning Edie into a caricature of James Bond.

Joe Spork, a nerdy, ordinary guy who somehow finds himself responsible for stopping an apocalypse and having awesome sex with a superhot action girl, reminds me of a Neil Gaiman character if Neil Gaiman's everyman protagonists ever actually did anything.

It just so happens that a tragedy occurs when Katie Shaw decides to go with her boyfriend Sam and let her younger brother Chris walk home alone. Now, adults, the siblings grew apart. Katie is married and has a 5-year-old daughter Sienna. Chris is/was an addict who runs into trouble and is currently missing. Tot ik op het eind het boek soms bijna letterlijk terzijde moest leggen wegens te [over dit woord twijfel ik nu al meer dan 5 minuten, maar ik hou het toch gewoon bij] hard.Although I found most of the book to be on the slower side initially, I was intrigued and had to know what was happening and how everything would play out. You need to pay attention and be patient as the payoff is HUGE. It is uncanny the amount of information one can gather from a simple toe. Said toe is of course, linked to other four toes which are in turn attached to a calf (slender) connected to a leg belonging to a woman called Polly (referred to as “Bold Receptionist” for far too long in the narrative after she is introduced) who has the dubious and eye-rolling ability to transform utterly innocent words like “sandwich” into erotic pronunciations (according to the hero’s point of view, of course). In The Angel Maker, there are many different characters and shifting time periods. The author presented events in an almost chaotic, haphazard fashion which led to confusion.
