March 4th, 2017 - Added new introduction and made numerous updates to the list of reasons!! Major thanks to almabes at VinylEngine.com for writing introduction to the guide, fixing errors on the guide and rewritten the reasons to be easily digestable!! X 1.0 mil elliptical diamond - Edison Diamond & very old/worn discs, raw aluminium, RCA home recordings., also Pathé vertical discs Fortunately, when it comes to the AT95E, there are no other 'hidden' variations, and they perform very well indeed, and to me, sound superb once dialled-in properly... very open, clean, and detailed, with excellent bass and treble extension, and also a very wide sound-stage...

except the Chinese noname twins of these, that seem not to be much worse, if at all, same factory?) Here are the following brands and models (if applicable for certain brands) to avoid, which are made from the Skywin (which shares the lionshare of "Crosley" clones in the market, Leetac, Hanpin (model FU-700/R200 models), and other OEM factories:

Side guide

For actual sound samples and photos of how damaging the records are on a Skywin-built player (i.e., the GPO Stylo), please take a look at an article at Audio Appraisal . Hanpin FU-700 OEM model was sourced by Audio Technica, Denon, Sony (earlier models), Marantz (earlier models), Philips, ZasLuke, and TEAC. With the 100pF capacitance setting on my phono pre-amp, the AT91 sounded remarkably focused in the treble. Increasing the setting to 250pF, however, a little roughness crept into the high frequencies. I therefore preferred the sound at the lower capacitance setting. A Worn stylus can cause Serious ( IrreversibleDamage ) to your records, and provide poor sound quality

November 18, 2017 - Added brands such as Miric, Toshiba, G Keni, and Box Legend to the list to be avoided. Having spent some time admiring it I opened up a brand new AT91 and proceeded to remove the generator canister. It’s held in place by a single Philips screw at the top and a bonding adhesive. Once removed from the body it is secured into the RigB by the same arrangement using the mounting screw provided. When installed there’s no unwanted movement or play in the assembly. Enjoyable and entertaining, but a bit thin and rough sounding and low on details. But for the money it's perfectly Ok, a decent performer for the price. Crosley (except for the C10 model, which is merely a rebranded Pro-Ject Essential turntable. The C100 and C200 are okay to use despite being from Hanpin (BJ-25 and DJ-45/DJ-3560 respectively)The included sapphire sylus on many Leetac and Skywin-manufactured players, which has a maximum lifespan of between 65 to 100 hours due to the stylus' softer material than diamond. Yes, you can upgrade to a diamond tipped stylus for increased stylus longevity, but you will still have the exact same problems as described in this list. November 11th, 2016 - Added Laser brand. Fixed formatting for consistency. Overhauled the list again to make it alphabetic. International brands has been rearranged by popularity.
