About this deal

Being a successful professional audio editor or producer requires both precision and speed. The longer it takes to complete a project, the less projects you complete. First of all, I was quite surprised to see Resolve as a keyboard option. I’m not sure if this says more about a worry of Avid people moving to Resolve or if Avid has seen an influx of people wanting to move from Resolve. These new to Avid keyboard layouts aren’t the only new features in this update to Media Composer, it’s just the ones that caught my eye. There are a lot of bug fixes. Please reconsider and enable us Avid users the ability to go between systems without breaking a 20-year-old muscle memory. These single key commands are often called “hotkeys” and are typically assigned due to their frequency of use.

The keys to being a successful professional editor come down to two things: precision and speed. Precision is a skill honed over time, with hundreds of hours of practice and experience finding the perfect way to cut and combine clips to tell a story. Speed comes down to how well you know your tools. Cycle Through Edit Modes: [`] Key (known as the "Single Open Quote" key, located directly above the Tab key) If you’re doing a lot of editing, these will be the keys with the most wear and tear. Now, let’s get into some more complex shortcut combinations for different uses.I have always thought that this keyboard layout was a thing of beauty. It was well thought out with what an editor has to do for much of an editing job which is watching media, making edits and then finessing the story. It was designed with two hands on the keyboard, the right doing a lot of playing of media with the JKL keys and the left marking and modifying IN and OUT points. I’ve always found this base idea to be the best for craft/creative editorial so I’ve made it my base keyboard layout as best I can in other NLEs. This was outlined years ago in my Keyboard Manifesto.

The first thing is the addition of the dials. There are certain edit tasks that lend themselves to rotating a dial and it’s a real joy. That is the addition of Premiere Pro and Resolve keyboard mappings as an option in addition to the Media Composer defaults. This is very unfortunate as it 1) breaks the keyboard mapping for the built-in Avid shortcuts, and 2) severely limits the power user. For most people the built-in keyboard shortcuts will be more than sufficient to streamline your editing workflow. However, if you are moving over from another editing program, such as Premiere Pro, you may want to keep the same hotkeys and shortcuts. Or, you may just want to change the shortcuts to work better with your workflow.Step 2: Select either “Button to Button Reassignment” or “Menu to Button Reassignment” to begin editing your shortcuts.

This can be a big downside for editors who are used to a certain workflow or just want to change things around because of personal preference (for example, you prefer to use the [fn] key instead of the control key before commands). So far in DR 15.2 update we can now use our number keys to do actions on the timeline, plus the visualisation of how they are mapped! Big kudos to Davinci Resolve team. In Avid media composer, I can select a clip with some I/O points, and then Lift/Extract/Copy (ALT + z,x,c) into the source monitor so that I can insert/overwrite the clip elsewhere on the timeline. Several types of goods are exempt from being returned. Perishable goods such as food, flowers, newspapers or magazines cannot be returned. We also do not accept products that are intimate or sanitary goods, hazardous materials, or flammable liquids or gases. You can also create a custom icon for each button to eliminate confusion (and maybe even add a little fun). If you’re looking for the easiest hotkey solution on the market, this is it.

Again, you’ll get out of it what you put into it. Yea but what about all those other tools Avid editor use?

DaVinci Resolve Studio 18

A shortcut/a new function for searching for clip on the timeline would be nice. Also another shortcut for the search function in the bin & one can start typing to search right away. Of course, we do live in a drag-and-drop era when many editors have never bothered to learn about proper Source/Record 3-point editing and they just drag everything they need right into the timeline. God help them. That isn’t a way that Avid was ever meant to work. Peter Chamberlain wrote:We currently have no plans to alter the single key number selection to be anything other than timecode or frame entry. With many different keyboard types and many laptop users who need those for timecode its not high on our list to review.
