The Bosch UniversalRotak 36-550 also comes with “LeafCollect” blades. An impressive feature that shifts the focus away from this being a taxing and laborious task, that many people put off time and time again, into something much more pleasant and manageable. What LeafCollect does is pretty much what it says on the tin, it collects the leaves for you in a bag so that once you’ve finished cutting the grass, you don’t have to get out the rake and collect all of the chopped and mashed up leaves from a lawn. A great little problem solver! As with any lawn mower if the cord becomes damaged, it is recommended to replace the cable with one of similar size and strength from Bosch and not a cheaper third party replacement. The inclusion of the side grass combs also makes this a practical mower as there will be less edge trimming required once the lawn has been cut.

I also tested the almost identical but slightly larger Bosch UniversalRotak 650. In my video review, I found that both the 550 and 650 models have some key upgrades that make them excellent choices for medium to large lawns. Cutting and grass collection is improved. Main Features The Bosch UniversalRotak 550 Electric Rotary Lawnmower is a new premium model from Bosch known for their durable mowers. With a 37cm cutting width and large 40 litre grass box, it can handle lawns up to 550 square metres. Powered by a powerful 1300 watt motor, the hardened steel blade uses Bosch’s innovative “Leaf Collect” system for efficient cutting and collection. Height is easily adjusted between 20-70mm using the central button. The Bosch UniversalRotak 550 has a very respectable 40 litre grass box. Though this may not be enough for the full 550 square metre rating, it will reduce the number of emptying trips that you will need to do.

The 36-550 model normally refers to the bare tool model or to the model supplied with 2 x 2.0Ah battery. A single 4.0Ah battery will cover slightly less lawn with a single charge than that of the 36-550. The Bosch UniversalRotak 550 is well-built for medium to large gardens, though the 10 meter power cord may be a bit short for some larger areas. Bosch’s direct drive electric motor means there are no belts or gears prone to wear down over time. Large wheels make it easy to maneuver, especially when the grass box is full.Also, another benefit is the ability to charge the 4Ah battery to 80% in just 96 minutes, ideal if you have a smaller lawn and don’t require the full run time to get the lawn mowed. To stripe or not to stripe? That is the question, and the eternal debate wages on. While stripes may not be to everyone’s taste, some people aren’t content with a freshly cut lawn without them, which is understandable, they are the epitome of a well-cut, neat, and well-maintained lawn. Bosch has installed a cable, far shorter than the area that the mower can cut, at 10 metres. The mower is rated to cut 550 square metres, for example a 10×55 metre lawn.
