Borrowed Units. Chaos Space Marine armies can run Plague Marines, Rubric Marines, and Berzerkers, and these each have some interesting play in the army. It’s hard to argue that this box doesn’t accomplish the goal of being a good entry point for CSM. Could the box have been constructed with different options and met the same goal? Sure! Here at BoLS we did some brain storming. We don’t have an issue with the troops or the HQ. So it was clearly the Helbrute that people had issues with. So we actually made a list of other models and likely reasons why those models probably weren’t chosen: This book used to have crucial rules for the Chaos Legions, but as of the release of the Codex, it’s no longer valid. You can basically skip or ignore it for the purposes of Chaos Space Marines. The one set of rules in it that might still be legal however are the rules for Be’lakor and his army of renown, but it’s likely those rules will no longer be valid after the release of Codex: Chaos Daemons. Possessed – these guys are absolute murder blenders, capable of mixing speed with insane damage output. That you can give them DEVASTATING WOUNDS is huge, since it often means a 5-model unit is going to be able to throw out 4-6 mortal wounds when they swing on relatively average dice. A Warlord (or Field Commander) from this Detachment with the Bloodblessed Warlord Trait would work well alongside a Master of Executions, making for a pretty terrifying tag team that can cut their way through even the toughest Characters. Unless you are a super fast painter, then you will unlikely find the time to build all the models you get with the normal sub, nevermind these extras.

These models aren’t just for show they have so much lore and history incorporated into each individual figure. The ability to regenerate 1 destroyed Torment or 3 destroyed Mutants in each player’s command phase, combined with a 6+ Feel No Pain and OC2, means these are going to be surprisingly annoying for your opponents to shift off objectives.The first is that, outside of the default invulnerable save many Thousand Sons units have, they can be quite easy to kill. You won’t have many options that can act as a ‘tank’ on the battlefield, with Toughness and Wounds stats being scarce across the board. You’ll have to rely on canny tactics, maneuvering, and judicious usage of stratagems and spells to stay alive, take objectives, and give your opponent a bloody nose wherever possible. Chaos Cultists are an integral part of many Chaos Space Marine armies, human cattle driven before the advancing marines purely to deplete enemy ammunition and discover their mines. Ninth edition required you to run more Marines than Cultists, despite adding many new units like Accursed Cultists or even the Dark Commune character unit. The Thousand Sons also received a boost to their stratagems in the 9th edition of Warhammer 40k. Many of these stratagems can be incredibly powerful in the right hands, with a little thought and preparation you can lay down some devastating rules. The lone battleline option for Chaos Space Marines are Legionaries, and it really seems like we’re meant to take a lot of them, but… Chosen are right there . Legionaries come with the statlines you’d expect and OC 2, and they can re-roll wound rolls of 1 in melee – or all wound rolls if they’re in range of an objective marker. This pushes them a bit more toward melee instead of shooting, and they can put out some solid damage if you give them chainswords and heavy melee weapons. That’s for the best since their other options aren’t great, though the Havoc Autocannon is a pretty solid heavy weapon option for the unit. Note that for what I assume are space reasons, the unit can take a missile launcher, plasma gun, lascannon, or heavy bolter, but these profiles aren’t on the datasheet.

If you are wondering if there is a new box coming out for your favorite faction, just look at our list of upcoming 40k releases. Legions are out. Forget about your legion rules and traits, it’s all just CSM now. And while there will likely be special Detachments in the future to work with, none of the CSM characters have the kinds of faction keywords to create restrictions like the Space Marines do, so we may see more flexibility on Chaos Rosters even after the Codex drops. The Master of Possession is an incredibly powerful unit for the Daemonkin. He has the ability to disrupt enemy psykers with his Rite of Possession ability, which increases the risks to enemy psykers using their powers within 12 inches of him. He has access to the Possession psychic power from the Malefic Discipline powers list. Possession increases the Master of Possession's own close combat ability, but also allows him to reinforce his own army with the slain of his enemies. If he kills any Astartes miniature, he can even summon a Greater Possessed, which are incredible close combat units. The Shadowspear box continues the story of the Vigilus Campaign, the current Warhammer 40K Narrative that Games Workshop are running. Shadowspear includes a campaign booklet that details the ongoing story and details of the Nemendghast campaign of which Shadowspear is part of. The booklet includes a mini-campaign of 6 linked missions that can be played with your own forces, or the Historical Forces using the two armies in the box. The Campaign booklet also includes an Open Play mission and some narrative hooks for other missions.

This is confusing already. on the surface, this looks like 10 Chaos Marines, 2 Greater Possessed and a Chaos Lord. However… Other Primarchs joined the ranks of Horus and Lorgar: Magnus the Red and his Thousand Sons; Angron and the World Eaters; Alpharius of the mysterious Alpha Legion; Fulgrim and his perfection-seeking sons, the Emperor’s Children; Perturabo and the Iron Warriors; Konrad Curze of the Night Lords; and, finally Mortarion of the Death Guard. This is a powerful ability, and there are other ways to make it more powerful – see Detachment Rules, below. Your best units are basically going to use this every time they shoot or fight. The Lost and the Damned Humanity’s Emperor may have gained some of the powers and knowledge he used to create the Primarchs from the Chaos Gods themselves – meaning that the fall of many legions of Space Marines may have been inevitable right from the start. The Adepta Sororitas Combat Patrol Box is weird: There’s 1 Penitent Engine instead of the two that usually come in a box, 4 Sisters Repentia and 1 Repentia Superior rather than the 9 and a Superior you usually get, 3 Arco-Flagellants rather than the usual 9 and… you get the picture. This is all because most of the stuff in the box was originally part of the Adepta Sororitas limited army set, and is thus placed on the same sprues rather than being the actual multipart plastic kits, so you shouldn’t buy this box if you have a specific 2000 points competitive list in mind.Maulerfiends should reach melee more consistently now, with innate rerolls to advance and charge rolls, as well as ignoring any or all modifiers to its movement and advance/charge rolls made for it. Going up to T10 will help it shrug off incoming melta. Abaddon the Despoiler– the Warmaster is still a great unit with some good abilities and while he’s not the invincible midtable machine he was there are still good reasons to include him in your army. For your second and third Troops choices, grab a set of Incursors and field them as two five-man squads, offering you another pair of infiltrating units, each equipped with a haywire mine for awesome area denial .
