About this deal

Beautiful light weight cleansing bal. It doesn't leave an oilly residue but does leave your skin fealing super soft. Fantastic for gently removing make upvincluding waterproof make up Key details – Key ingredients: Marula seed oil, camellia seed oil, sunflower seed oil, squalane; Scented: Yes YOU’s beauty director Edwina Ings-Chambers shares my love for a cleansing balm. ‘They’re my cleanser of choice,’ she says. ‘My skin tends towards dehydration and they are generally oil-based and full of fatty acids so they don’t strip the skin as much.’ Established in 2006, Banila Co evolved with the mission to revolutionise skincare practices while catering to the lifestyle needs of today’s women. With a firm held belief in the philosophy that “gorgeous skin is the first step to a flawlessly fierce face” Banila Co pride themselves on setting new beauty trends with their revolutionary skincare formulas.

The cleansing balm provides a deep, hydrating cleanse that leaves skin feeling soft and supple. Banila Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm is free form parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral oil, alcohol, or artificial coloring. Cleansing balms can be massaged directly onto wet or dry skin, depending on your preference. However, Dr Maybury suggests using lukewarm water to remove the balm, as too-high temperatures can cause irritation and wash away the skin’s essential lipids ( oils). And if you want an extra few minutes to yourself in the bathroom, a cleansing balm can be rather relaxing: they offer a lot of ‘slip’, so you can treat yourself to an at-home facial to wash away the remnants of the day. While we (and most of the beauty community) highly recommend it, there are a few things that could be improved on. First, it’s not ideal for breaking down waterproof makeup—it requires some rubbing to fully remove mascara and stubborn makeup. The texture can also be slightly clumpy—when you apply it to your skin, it doesn’t melt evenly. However, we think the pros far outweigh the cons, so it’s absolutely a product we recommend. Alyssa Kaplan is an experienced writer in the beauty industry and product tester specializing in cosmetics. She has many cleansing balms, including several on this list. She received a bachelor’s degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she studied marketing and product development in the cosmetics industry as well as fashion business marketing. Alyssa has been a commerce writer at Byrdie since 2022, where she covers all things beauty. As cleansing balms are formulated with higher levels of nourishing ingredients (think fatty acids, oils and vitamins), they are brilliant at cleansing the skin without making it feel dry or stripped,” says Dr Maybury. She continues to explain that as the months get cooler, our moisture retention reduces, which can increase dehydration even more – so autumn and winter can be a great time to introduce a cleansing balm into your routine.Banila Co’s Clean It Zero 3-in-1 Cleansing Balm Original is a hypoallergenic cleanser that transforms from sherbet-like texture into smooth oil when applied onto your skin. With one pot being sold every 3.1 seconds this must be the ultimate ‘holy-grail’ product amongst savvy beauty-devotees world wide. BANILA Co’s- Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm Original is a luxurious – and effective – way to cleanse. A sumptuous blend of botanical extracts combined with Hot Springs Water as well as Vitamin E and Vitamin effectively purify while protecting the skin’s natural moisture balance. Sinking into skin to remove dirt and even waterproof make up, this won’t leave behind unwanted impurities – instead, it will even out tone and minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Something that sets this cleansing balm apart — besides its much heftier price tag — is the fact that it comes with muslin cloth for light exfoliation during cleansing. While some people seem to love it (including our tester), others choose to avoid it. As such, it’s not entirely necessary to enjoy the product. The reason cleansing balms work so well for all skin types is that they're formulated with lipophilic oils. “That means they are attracted to other oils and can dissolve them,” explains Karen Hammerman, MD, board-certified dermatologist at Schweiger Dermatology Group in Garden City, New York. As effective as these oils are at ridding the skin of excess sebum, Dr. Hammerman says that there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind when shopping for a high-quality cleansing balm. The Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm Nourishing from BANILA CO is expertly designed to practically melt away dirt and debris while it cleans and clears your skin. Calm, nourishing and optimally hydrating, this cleansing balm from From a consistency stance, our tester says that the balm is silky, with a hint of graininess. “I wasn't expecting that, but really appreciated it,” she admits. “It left me feeling cleaner and really helped to get both makeup and sunscreen off my face.'' Another aspect of the consistency that surprised her was the fact that it wasn’t super oily, which is a common feature of cleansing balms. “It didn't leave any kind of residue on my face,” she says.

Often formulated with hydrating oils and waxes, cleansing balms are masterful at melting away stubborn makeup (SPF and mascara included), and will deeply cleanse the skin from impurities without leaching away its natural sebum. Yes, they’re super hydrating and won’t create that notorious tightening effect – even on oily skin types. What skin type works best with a cleansing balm? During testing, we found that the consistency became more oily as we worked it across the face, and it took a bit of effort to fully remove it with water. However, we were really impressed with its performance. It did a nice job at removing all makeup and left the skin feeling balanced and looking glowy. While we weren't bothered by the fragrance, several online reviewers have noted that the menthol/eucalyptus scent is overpowering. If you’re sensitive to scent, this is definitely something to keep in mind. I was surprised by how smooth my skin felt after using this cleansing balm — usually I feel a little dry [post-cleansing],” says our tester, noting how it seamlessly washes away waterproof makeup and sunscreen alike. “I think it's due to the abundance of oils in the formula.” Cleansing balms are also great for indulging in a spot of facial massage, which in itself delivers a wealth of skin-boosting benefits. By sculpting your cheeks and jawline and stimulating lymphatic drainage – in turn, boosting blood flow – facial massage encourages relaxation and skin rejuvenation, helping to combat ageing, acne, sinus pressure and much more. Cleansing balms are cleansers that use oils and emollients to remove dirt, makeup, and buildup from the day without the need for harsh scrubbing," says board-certified dermatologist Carmin Castilla. "They are able to cleanse without stripping the skin of its natural oils and damaging your skin barrier." While most skin types will still want to go in with your usual face wash after using a cleansing balm, these formulas make the entire getting unready process so much easier. That said, there are a few ingredients to steer clear of, too — primarily depending on your skin type. “If you have oily or acne-prone skin, look for non-comedogenic products,” Tavernise says, noting to avoid coconut oil, lanolin, algae extract, and isopropyl myristate — which she says are great for dry skin but can clog pores and worsen breakouts on oily complexions. “If you have sensitive skin, avoid any balms with ingredients that can dry out and irritate the skin like alcohol and salt.” IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Makeup 3-in-1 Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm is infused with brightening vitamin C and rosehip oil to not only cleanse the complexion, but boost it, too. So beyond removing makeup like a dream, it also minimizes dullness so you look glowy after each use. Pond’s Cold Cream Cleansing Balm is pretty much the OG cleansing balm. It’s marketed as a makeup cleanser that intensely moisturizes skin and our tester agrees that it meets the mark in that category. While it works well to remove makeup (including heavy eye makeup), our tester was surprised by just how greasy it feels. That said, the extra-oily texture makes it easy to massage into skin, and it does eventually sink in and remove all traces of makeup. Unlike similar products we've used in the past that left our oily skin feeling even more oily, we loved that this cleansing balm left the face feeling clean, balanced, and hydrated. Those of us with dry skin also loved how gentle and hydrating it felt while still providing the adequate cleanse we needed. It takes very little effort to remove a full face of makeup, has a nourishing formula, doesn’t leave a greasy residue behind, and is affordable, making it a product we can't recommend enough.
