About this deal

You’re right; I should have known. Looking at the past, I can see my severely flawed thought processes, but at the time I couldn’t. I continued to search for the answer to my cluttered home, all the while constantly buying new stuff. Do I recommend this book? Absolutely, 100%, you betcha! In fact, and I hope my friends aren’t reading this, it’s going to be a Christmas present. My advice is to go through the steps, focusing first on all visible clutter in the room, working on floors and surfaces and open shelves. pg.66 But as long as I was using containers incorrectly, I was never going to reach that State of Organization.

A lot of the clutter came into my house this way. I had an eye for finding bargain furniture that need repairing (with the idea of reselling it). Except the finding became a lot more fun and easier than the restoration work. Decluttering isn't Stuff Shifting. It it's rearranging or buying a new shelving unit or sorting into slots or drawers or baskets. Decluttering isn't organizing. Honestly, it wasn't emotional at all, and I believe that's why the moment had such an impact on me. I finally understood what I now call the Container Concept.Do your best to not let stuff get in the way of your relationship with this person. Don't get personal. Focus on my nonemotional steps to working through an overwhelming mess. pg.173 I’m super proud that the book truly delivers on the promise of its title. The marketing spiel is, “Whether you have five minutes, five hours, or five days to spend decluttering, you can make real progress in your home.” Decluttering Regret (the realization that I need something after I declutter it) isn't fun, I've survived every time. pg.5 Access to a private, four-week book club in March. We’ll do these through a private (though not secret, as I learned last time is way too much hassle) Facebook group where I’ll go live once each week in March, discussing sections of the book and answering your questions.

As someone who has struggled with clutter for years, and read lots of books on the subject, this is something different. A practical, entertaining and honest guide to decluttering." - N. C. Tayler White has you look at your living space as a series of containers - your house is a container, each room is a container, your closets are containers, your cabinets, chests of drawers and desks are containers, etc. When you run out of room in these containers, you can't bring anything else in unless you get rid of something. According to Dictionary.com, contain has multiple definitions. These are the ones that speak to my clutter-collecting soul:Oh, and the audiobook is actually read by the author, and she’s a hoot. I highly recommend that as well.) I really enjoyed the author's approach to the subject matter. She approaches this as a mental state of being- a decision that change must take place- and warns of the hardships ahead of parting company with 'treasures', but then she leaves the esoteric behind to provide a solid winning formula. See that? That’s her paper copy with an (estimated) ba-jillion notes! I loved meeting Sandra of Plum Prairie Ranch! I define clutter as anything I can't keep under control. If a space in my home consistently gets out of control, I have too much stuff in that space. I have clutter. pg.4 The final step is White’s container concept. If you want to keep something but there’s no space where it belongs, you make it fit.

Decluttering isn’t organizing. When I realized decluttering and organizing were two different things and that it was okay to just declutter, I felt a weight lift off my soul. I no longer slumped my shoulders in defeat before I even started, knowing from experience that whatever solution I might create would surely fail like all the others had. Instead, I purged. I focused solely on getting things we didn’t need out of our house.Decluttering isn't organizing. If you're on the fence about reading her book, consider giving one of her YouTube videos a listen. Ugh. My closet floor is covered in scarves. I know it’s not possible to have too many scarves, because scarves are useful and having choices is essential to fashionable living, but I’m really tired of my closet floor being covered in scarves. There is no stuff put aside in keep piles to deal with later so the house doesn’t become more messy in the process of decluttering. How To Help Family And Friends Declutter
