About this deal

No one know the real me but her. Lana Castillo – my childhood best friend and the only woman I ever loved.

I just wanted to note something personal here; As a Latina, I thought the Latin representation in this book is done exceptionally well! From the phrases they used in Spanish to the foods and even breaking some stereotypes (yes, some Latin ppl listen to country music, I'm not one of them but my cousin eats that sh*t up!) So many times, I see ppl speak out when it's not done well that I wanted to make a point of applauding the author here bc I was so happy to see it done with such care. 💙 This is everything I hoped it would be. Everything. I loved Cal in Terms and conditions but we never really got this side of him. He’s still funny but turns out his life is a mess and throughout the book you see a lot of character growth from him. Lana is incredibly strong, sometimes a little impulsive but that’s understandable. I’m Cami.” She holds out her hand for me to shake. “Cal.” I’m on autopilot as I clutch her small palm. The size difference between us is comical, but her grip is strong as she shakes my arm like a pool noodle. “Hi, Cow-l.” I break into a fit of laughter. My lungs burn from how hard I laugh, and my eyes water in an automatic response. Of all the stupid ways you could have phrased that… Embarrassment floods my cheeks pink. Cal’s laughter doesn’t help matters, only making my flush worse.

Because if Cal is the sun, then the rest of us are aimless planets revolving around him, tragically trapped in his orbit. callahan kane is a "mirrorball/this is me trying/champagne problems" character and if that's not enough to convince you to read this book, i don't know what is. Six years pass and Cal has never returned to Lake Wisteria (except for one time) where Lana lives and he used to visit his grandfather Brady Kane during the summer. As good old Brady would have it, Cal needs to sell the house that Brady left for him to be able to get his inheritance and help his brothers secure their portion of the Dreamland franchise that Brady created. Little dose Cal know that Brady was a sneaky man who had more puzzle pieces than Cal expects, and when he shows up to the lake house for the first time in years, he finds out that none other than Lana had actually inherited half of the lake house. Causing Cal how to find a way to convince Lana to sell the house. NOTE NOTE: SHOULD YOU READ THIS SERIES? NO, read just this book. (I have given this thought before writing, believe it or not)

Several comments about this book. Firstly like all Asher's books, it is well written with a lot of detail and of course with much fun, humour and deathly romantic. I enjoy the Dreamland series and this one doesn't disappoint. addiction is not a simple topic to write about, so if you’re not going to give it any justice, or don’t do any research before writing heavy themes, SIMPLY DO NOT WRITE ABOUT IT AT ALL Girls: Iris, Alana, Zahra (my eye still twitches when i remember she’s basically a disney adult but i digress)

i can totally see why people would love this book sm. it was definitely her best writing, and far from being a bad book. but unfortunately it just wasn’t for me and dragged on for far too long. NO ONE can convince me a contemporary romance needs to be 600 pgs especially when a good chunk of of it is just filler and repetitive. despite the the length, we barely got any solid context on their history (their childhood friendships, how they got together, their past relationship, separation etc) which was very frustrating and left so many blanks in their story. why even make ‘em childhood friends if you aren’t gonna build on it ??? i don’t understand. this all just made it really hard for me to connect to them as characters or root for their hea. I attempt to pull myself free of his grasp and fail. His fingers clasping my wrist tighten before he releases me, and my hand drops by my side like a pendulum.

What happened to Cal? Cal was the brother I looked forward to reading about most. He was so fun and witty in the other books but such a dud in this one. I love reading about damaged heroes, especially when they put on a confident front, but the charm wasn't there at all. As I mentioned earlier, the best part was his recovery journey. However, even that bothered me towards the end. He says he decides to go to rehab for himself, but how it was written makes it seem that it's entirely for Alana and Cami. Also, he's supposed to be a genius, but we don't see any part of that in the story.THE CUTEST KID EVER. she’s definitely one of my top fave fictional kids in a romance book (rivalling Jeremy Volkov and Lucy). every time she giggled and squealed my heart melted so much.
