About this deal

Yes this is what silicon sealant is for. Then you hit the problems when it has to be removed for maintenance. Actually I haven’t seen a cistern sealed to a wall. Be aware condensation on the outside of the cistern may get trapped there. Perhaps it’s better for air to circulate. You can remove the hard plastic ring from the rubber gasket. Compressing the gasket will then result in a reduction in its height. Looking for someone to help you with your plumbing? None of this is due to their basic purpose but because of design and materials used.

In these situations, you’ll need to remove the old wax seal and install a new one. That requires applying enough indirect heat to soften the wax so that you can scrape it off. It’s a messy job, especially if two wax seals were used. If the toilet shifts slightly, a foam seal can change shape to fill any gaps and maintain a seal. Rubber and PVC seals are less able to do this. If you need to remove the toilet, you can reuse the wax-free seal as long as it’s still in good condition. There’s nothing to scrape up or replace. The benefit here is mostly easier clean-up. Toilet seals are cheap, so there’s little cost savings. This cookie, set by YouTube, registers a unique ID to store data on what videos from YouTube the user has seen. Good Question, I think? For this old timer, the good old fashion 100% virgin wax seal has been and still is the most popular way to set a toilet bowl today. That being said, there are new products coming into the market each and every day. Today I’d like to briefly introduce you to two of them which are becoming ever more popular among the do it yourself community. The problem is, finding a tool capable of opening to such a large diameter. I used a specialist wrench in the form of Water Pump Pliers with “dinosaur” teeth. Not too good for the plastic but they opened up wide enough to nearly 70mm (2¾”). See Pic. 8 below. Pic. 8. Once the wax-free seal is in place, just lower the toilet onto the flange, and the ring seals as it compresses. There’s no need to worry about temperature. The material’s flexibility compensates for imperfect placement of the toilet while still forming a perfect seal. You can reposition the toilet several times without needing a new ring as you would with wax. You’ll still need to ensure the toilet is firmly seated. If the seal doesn’t compress enough to let the weight of the toilet rest on the floor, you’ll end up with a wobbly toilet that puts too much weight on the flange. if (2) then the spongy doughnut seal is not compressed enough such that the pressure of the flushing water makes most of it go into the pan but some leaks out around the doughnut seal.
