About this deal

COB LED LIGHT: The SL-60W is the 60W continuous lighting solution from Godox. Providing a high-quality light with colour-accurate rendering and dimming control, the SL-60W is the perfect light for photographers and videographers. Light output is continuous at a fixed, color temperature of 5600 kelvin, which is the temperature of natural daylight. The light is fully dimmable between 0 and 100%, and has a CRI value of 96 and TLCI value of 97 for accurate rendition of color in a subject when illuminated.

Godox is tastefully applying this yellow color to other parts of the hardware as well. There’s a splash of yellow on the v-mount battery latch, the tightening knob, and detailing on the light itself. watts is on the low end of the power spectrum for a COB light, but for indoor video shooting where the light is being positioned just off-camera, it’s plenty of power. Stills photographers who require much faster shutter speeds than filmmakers will want to consider a higher power version of the light such as the SL-150. That is unless you are only photographing still life subjects while using a tripod and longer shutter speeds. The construction and design of the UL60 is much nicer than the 60W. The fit and finish of everything is tighter and more professional looking. Godox has been investing more in their product design since the 60W, which you can see in all the hardware that comes with this light. I cranked the UL60 up to maximum, 100% brightness, then progressively moved further away from the light until my skin tone hit 55% IRE on the monitor’s waveform. (FYI, 55% is what works best for me and my skin tone when exposing C-Log). In this test, I was able to stand ten feet away before my skin tone dropped below 55%. For that, Godox also sells the UL150. This light is the same as the UL60, but outputs 150 watts of light. The UL150 is also passively cooled and completely silent just like the UL60. Downsides of the Godox UL60Godox is not responsible for financial losses and other civil law consequences caused by a defect in the advertised device (loss of profit, turnover, inability to conduct business). Speaking of light modifiers, I might have found the perfect pairing for the SL-60. It’s called the Lantern Softbox and it’s made by Aputure. This softbox has some directionality to it, but it also has a lot of spill around the edges from the globe shape that helps to spread light around a wider area. It’s a fantastic solution if you only have one light, but you want to light a relatively large part of a room with a nice soft look. Here’s a sample photo taken beneath the Lantern using the Godox SL-60. Note how much light has wrapped around onto my hand behind the camera when using this awesome Lantern modifier. The key things to note are that the light can be used worldwide and has high color accuracy. Why continuous light? The Godox SL-60W is a white 60W COB LED continuous light. The SL-60W is a daylight-balanced video light with an intuitive design. The SL-60W is a Bowens Fit light and so is compatible with all Bowens fit modifiers. With an intuitive overheating prevention system, the SL-60W is protected against overheating whilst in use. Godox clearly took complaints about fan noise in the SL-60W seriously, for the UL60 doesn’t make a sound. Crank the UL60 up to 100% brightness, and you still can’t hear a thing.

BOWENS S MOUNT: The SL-60W is a Bowens Fit light meaning that it will work perfectly with all Bowens fit modifiers, including softboxes and beauty dishes. Integrated heatsink, built-in fan, and temperature control function help keep the light running cool for safe and consistent use. The temperature of the fixture itself can also be monitored, in Fahrenheit or Celsius, on the rear LCD. The SL-60 isn’t all that big, but I was surprised how heavy it was. It doesn’t feel like a cheap hollow plastic box nearly as much as I expected. The customer may be charged with the costs of transport and diagnosis of the product if the product sent as part of the warranty complaint is functional or its defects result from improper use of the product.Defects that occur during the warranty period will be repaired free of charge, as soon as possible, which should not exceed 14 days from the date of accepting the equipment for repair. The deadline may be extended if the repair requires the import of spare parts and other random situations beyond the control of Godox. The UL60 also comes with an external power control. This piece of hardware modifies brightness, modes, groups, and powers the light on and off without touching the light. This is especially helpful when the light is boomed high overhead and not easily reachable. Godox UL60: Power controller By placing a shoothru umbrella on the light, you’ll get a softer light, but at the expense of lower power. This is because you tend to lose about two-stops of light when using any kind of diffuser modifier. Further options open up with the Bowens mount. Any modifier than can fit a studio light with a Bowens S-type mount will work. As most studio lights have modeling bulbs that heat up inside the modifier, it should work no bother with the SL60W. Hard light Durable & Strong]: Powerful 60W LED bead offers high light brightness and stable illumination, Specially designed protect cover to protect the LED bead;Excellent heat dissipation with premium heat sink and built-in fan, With temperature control function to prevent overheating.

Large-sized LCD panel]: Small size, light and portable. Large-sized LCD panel for convenient operation. Settings auto saved. Bowen's-style mount adds various accessories. The first and foremost thought about using the SL60W is that what you see is quite literally what you get. No guessing or external metering required. Your in-camera meter will give an accurate reading and those on mirrorless with preview simulation on will see the shot in-camera before shooting (same for Live View users with Exposure Simulation on). The 60W COB LED offers a high output along with color-accurate rendering and dimming control from 10-100%.To test the same setup with a non-prime lens, I stopped-down the aperture to f/2.5, and this time I was able to stand seven feet away at 55% IRE. The Godox Light mobile app generally works fine with the UL60, though I did experience some occasional Bluetooth dropouts that caused the light and app to lose their handshake. Additionally, the Godox Light app is not compatible (at least at the time of this review) with other, not-so-old Godox LED lights including the VL150. Perhaps Godox is going through a transitionary phase with their lights and mobile apps right now, but I was disappointed that I could not control both the UL60 and VL150 using the same app. Final thoughts

LED lights can be a great way to get started with off-camera lighting in photography. What you see is what you get, so it’s easy to understand how the light changes as you move it around and use different modifiers. What’s important to remember is that the brightness of the LED will have an effect on shutter speed that’s available to you. A continuous 60w LED like the SL-60 is nowhere near as bright as a regular hot shoe flash, let alone a larger monolight. The stand is very well made. No cheap plastic parts. This was one of the bigger and noticeable improvements over cheaper models. This unit is designed to last much longer than the competition as well as offer multiple different positions of mounting your light to the stand with its multi position head. But let’s get some real world numbers to test 60 watts of brightness in a key light. To test this out, I recorded video with the following setup (what I typically for videos on my channel). damage resulting from improper use or storage of the product not in accordance with the user manual and safety regulationsSpeaking of the bowen’s mount, the UL60 comes with a 7″ reflector for shaping and intensifying the light. When mounted it creates a bright, 30 degree beam spread. Light output While taking the look of a monobloc, the Godox SL60W is actually smaller than a typical studio flash head. It still weighs in at a hefty 1.6kg. First impressions of this light in the box were that it was a little smaller than I expected and that although it looked plastic, it looked well made. In the box are a long IEC cable, a Bowens mount reflector and remote control. The remote needs AAA batteries (not included). The remote can be set to 16 channels with 4 groups, the same as the light. This allows for a large number of lights to be controlled remotely. While the remote does appear to allow temperature changes, this light is white light only. You can dim the light from 100-10%. A single pushes give 1% changes while holding down the + or – buttons speeds this up. You can also turn the LED off from the remote, while the light remains powered up. There will always be fans on COB lights. In most cases, I don’t think people will have a problem with the noise of this one unless you had a lot of these lights all in a confined space that was prone to echo. To put the noise into context, in my office where I hung the light, the fan noise is completely drowned out by the noise of my hard drives. So it’s not bad, but it’s something to be aware of. Don’t put a camera too close to the light if it has a mic on it, and don’t accidentally point a more directional mic in the direction of the light. Of course, I’m testing the SL-60 light here, the cheapest of the Godox COB range. But the light is also available in three additional variations with more power: SL-100, SL-150 and SL-200. The design of the more powerful lights is nearly identical, but each one gets a little longer to accommodate a larger power supply and more cooling. If you get to the end of this review and like the look of the product, but wish it was more powerful, you have those options.
