About this deal

Fleur Delacour - took a part-time job with Gringotts after participating in the Triwizard Tournament, supposedly to improve her English. [30] On his first visit to Gringotts, Harry was told by Hagrid to be cautious. Goblins are extremely greedy and would protect their money and valuables at any cost, which makes them ideal guardians for the valuables of the wizarding world. Ironically, Harry later did rob Gringotts with Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley [10], the only known successful theft in the history of the bank, by taking advantage of a former employee's knowledge of the inner workings of the bank. It is unknown if Harry was able to resume normal business with the bank following Voldemort's defeat. From Harry Potter first discovering Diagon Alley to the famous trio escaping on a Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon in their quest for a Horcrux, Gringotts Wizarding Bank played an important role in the Harry Potter film series. Our newest expansion allows visitors to walk through the wizarding bank of Gringotts, the Lestrange vault, a gallery of goblins and so much more.

Organised by Bloomsbury Publishing for the 2021 Harry Potter Book Night, [34] when the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child read aloud Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Chapter 5 ( Diagon Alley) together, Kristina Peters, the actress portraying Delphini in the Hamburg production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, read the warning sign ( "Enter, stranger, but take heed [...]") from Gringotts Wizarding Bank. [35] Head Goblin · Head Curse-Breaker · Curse-Breaker · Gringott's Dragon · Gringotts Guards · Spokesgoblin · Vaults Guardian Goblins also held the debt to extremes, as they hunted down Ludo Bagman after he lost a bet with them, and even though they took everything of value from him after he cheated them with leprechaun gold, they still hounded him due to it being not enough to cover his debt. [10] When Bagman ran out on his final loss against the goblins, they refused to side with the humans due to this cheat. The goblin is an evil, mischievous creature from European mythology. Though they are described inconsistently in the myths of different countries, common traits include short stature, the magical ability of some form, and a love of money. Gringotts Wizarding Bank was the only wizarding bank in Great Britain, and was owned and operated by goblins. It was founded by a goblin named Gringott in 1474. Its main offices were located around the North Side of Diagon Alley in London, England.

Goblins were extremely clever and over the years had dealt with wizard-kind effectively. They were still subservient in the minds of most wizards, but they had established themselves as a vital part of wizarding society. The goblins ran Gringotts, the wizarding bank. Therefore, they controlled the wizarding economy to a large extent. [4] Gringotts is next seen properly in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when Harry, Ron, and Hermione decide to ‘steal’ a Horcrux of Voldemort from Bellatrix Lestrange’s vault. Her fear when she finds out that Hermione and the others had the Sword of Gryffindor is a giveaway to the possibility of finding something important there. So, Harry, Hermione, and Ron enlist the help of Griphook, and they go to Gringotts in disguise. Hermione disguises herself as Bellatrix and Ron as a Death Eater. A goblin known for being particularly foul-smelling, who attempted to sell vials of his sweat for Dungbomb production. [12] The Lestranges, a very old pure-blood family, had a vault in Gringotts guarded by a dragon and full of treasure protected by the Geminio and Flagrante curses. It, at one point, was used to store the sword of Godric Gryffindor, unknown to the Lestrange's that it was actually a fake. It also served as the hiding place for Helga Hufflepuff's Cup, one of Lord Voldemort's Horcruxes. It was this item that Harry, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger sought to steal when they broke into Gringotts in 1998. They managed to steal the cup, severely damaged the cavernous interior and freed a dragon while escaping. The motto of Gringotts Wizarding Bank was Fortius Quo Fidelius, a Latin phrase that meant "Strength through loyalty". [2] There seemed to be several jobs available at Gringotts for wizards, in addition to those positions held by goblins, though they were largely behind-the-scenes. Bill Weasley took a job as a Curse-Breaker, hunting treasure in Egypt after his graduation from Hogwarts. The job was described in a pamphlet available to Hogwarts students. [20] Gringotts makes regular appearances in the rest of the series and is also mentioned several times, including when Bill Weasley, Ron’s brother, is introduced. Bill works as a curse breaker for Gringotts in Egypt. Eventually, he also meets his future wife Fleur Delacour there as she joins Gringotts for a part-time job after the Triwizard Tournament. A pamphlet from Gringotts hiring students is seen in one of the books, and it mentions that a career for curse-breakers in Gringotts will give them access to travel, adventure, and treasure bonuses.

Sirius used gold from this vault to pay for Harry Potter's Firebolt in 1993. [27] Upon Sirius's death, he left all the money in the vault to Harry in his will. Gold, filthy gold! We cannot live without it, yet I confess I deplore the necessity of consorting with our long-fingered friends." — Travers's distaste for goblins [src]Gringotts Wizarding Bank makes numerous appearances in the Harry Potter series. The first appearance of Gringotts in the series occurs in Harry Potterand the Philosopher’s Stonewhen Harry and Hagrid visit Diagon Alley and go to the bank to get some money from Harry’s vault. They are taken through the underground rail by Griphook to both Harry’s vault and another vault that Hagrid has to collect something from. On the way, Hagrid explains to Harry that only a fool would try to steal from Gringotts. Later, it is found that he was collecting the Philosopher’s Stone from Nicholas Flamel’s vault to be taken to Hogwarts for safekeeping. From newspaper reports, Harry, Ron, and Hermione later find out that the same vault had been broken into, but nothing was stolen, as the contents in it were emptied earlier.
