About this deal

Tower fan - a slim vertical design that will take up the least amount of space in your home. The upright design of the tower fan means that, unlike a conventional round-blade fan, the cool air is not focused on a very specific point, it’s distributed more evenly with an oscillating function. We always seem to be severely unprepared in the UK when a heatwave arrives, unable to cope with the sweltering heat and desperately searching for the best fans to keep us cool. When it comes to fans and heaters, Dyson always seems to be the brand name on everyone's lips. Investing in a Dyson fan is expensive, yes, but when you think about cost per use or how long it will last over time it could be the answer to your problem of looking for the best fan to keep you cool. A tower fan can be more useful than a pedestal fan if you're planning on using it regularly as it will fit into a corner of a room without taking up much space and with a small footprint. This isn’t the perfect fan for sleepers, as even on its lowest setting it’s far from silent, but it’s fine for cooling down a small living room or taking some heat out of the bedroom before sleep. Looking for maximum cooling for a minimal cost? The Igenix is pretty hard to beat.

How it manages this impressive level of cooling is unsurprising however: it’s loud. On the top setting, measured right next to the fan, the sound level meter measured a volume of 79.1db, dropping to 50.5db two metres away. There are only three fan power levels, and although the fan does have a ‘night-time mode’, it’s really strangely implemented: the power of the fan is alternated between whisper quiet and jet-engine every few seconds. Truthfully it’s anything other than restful, and most people would be better off just switching it to the lowest setting, where it hits a far more manageable 68.5db – which isn’t too far off the Quiet model. Otherwise, the best thing about this tower fan is that it offers an efficient and economical way to cool larger areas. It pushes through air at speeds of up to 3.2m/sec at the highest of its five speed settings, or 3.3m/sec in Turbo mode. True, it’s a little loud when maxed out, at 44.4 to 45.2dB, but on its next to lowest setting you can still hit speeds of 2.1m/sec, with the noise reduced to around 32dB – and it will only use around 20W while doing so. Throw in the competitive price, and you have a great tower fan for bigger bedrooms. There are a few things you need to keep in mind when choosing the best tower fan for you: its size, price, features, noise level, and design. You want to think about what you use the fan for (to cool the whole room or to cool your face while you work at your desk) and how much you can afford. This Honeywell quietset whole room model has standard adjustment settings for its price, it doesn't include an extensive timer range, but this is expected for the money, the remote control is great for operating the device from a distance. Design This Honeywell Quietset whole room model, in particular, is a very affordable option for cooling down you down during the summer and has great adjustability as well as speed options. The bladeless designs also tend to be quieter than pedestal fans which makes them useful if you're planning on having them turned on while you sleep. Oscillation is the other key feature. Nearly all tower fans oscillate, turning slowly from side to side to cover a larger area, but they differ in how wide the angle of oscillation is. Again, the bigger the space you want to cool, the wider you want it – and you can always turn oscillation off if you just want to keep yourself comfortable. How we test tower fans You either want easy access to the controls, so that you can turn the fan on or off in the middle of the night, or a remote control you can keep by the bedside. Being able to tilt the fan up or down can also give you more options as to where to place it – and the same goes for a longer power cable. We’re also seeing increasing numbers of fans that can run from a USB connection (either a USB power bank or charger) or from an internal lithium-ion battery. Are there any other features worth having?

Honeywell is very popular in the tower fan market and has created a huge range of quiet and affordable products to choose from. It's so quiet in comparison to other tower fans we've used, ideal for using as you sleep on ridiculously hot days (we're British so anything above 20 is boiling).
