About this deal

In contrast to the typical Disney portrayal of Rapunzel, here we can see Crane’s usual reverential treatment of his subjects. Crane’s interpretation of the fairy tales is about serious artwork for serious literature, age-old and meaningful – more than just bedtime stories.

Accompanying Gaiman’s beautiful words, which speak to the part of the soul that revels in darkness but is immutably drawn to the light, are befittingly beautiful illustrations by Italian graphic artist Lorenzo Mattotti— the talent behind Lou Reed’s adaptation of The Raven.Since Marisa Meyers bases her Lunar Chronicles books on the tale of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Snow White I thought that I re-read these classic fairy tales so I am not in the dark so much about who some of the characters are supposed to be in the books. Snow White does not seem that bright. After being told repeatedly by the seven dwarfs to not open the door to anyone. There are two incidents that happen until The Queen finally in her mind does away with Snow White. Good tale, nothing I didn’t expect, but was surprised a little by the ending and how the wolf was killed. I very much enjoyed this tale. It’s the same as the Snow White that we know but this talks about the tale of two sisters who are very close and did everything together. I liked how the story focuses on their character and personalities rather than their beauty or about the “bad guys’ motives”. One of my favourites so far. As I have often found with illustrated books of folk and fairy tales, the actual text is very much the poor relation. Here at least there is one illustration per story, inserted in the story itself, rather than randomly. Yet the size of the book, and the cramped feel of the text does not invite one to read each story. The font size is very small, and the translators are not credited. It seems as if this is a book produced primarily for the artworks.

This story has three mini stories within. I really liked the first story, unlike some retellings that I have read where the Elves stopped helping when they were given clothes and their curse was broken and the shoemaker no longer prospered Instead, here we see them all have a very happy ending. To equip his imagination with maximally appropriate raw material, Sendak even sailed to Europe before commencing work on the project, hoping to drink in the native landscapes and architecture amid which the Brothers Grimm situated their stories. Aware of the artist’s chronic poor health, legendary children’s book patron saint Ursula Nordstrom— Sendak’s editor and his greatest champion— beseeched him in a lovingly scolding letter right before he departed: “For heaven’s sake take care of yourself on this trip.” The Twelve Huntsmen The Golden Bird Many-Fur The Devil and the Three Golden Hairs Ferdinand Faithful and Ferdinand Unfaithful The GoblinsOcr tesseract 5.2.0-1-gc42a Ocr_detected_lang en Ocr_detected_lang_conf 1.0000 Ocr_detected_script Latin Ocr_detected_script_conf 1.0000 Ocr_module_version 0.0.17 Ocr_parameters -l eng Old_pallet IA-WL-2000097 Openlibrary_edition Okay this was a good story, I liked how the clever fox knew how to help the Horse to get to his master using his words to convince others.

The Brothers Grimm Tales" was a captivating voyage into the enchanting yet often dark realm of classic fairytales. Immersing myself in these original renditions was a nostalgic trip down memory lane, evoking the magical essence of childhood bedtime stories. What sets this collection apart is the opportunity to experience these tales in their raw, unadulterated form. The darker and more complex undertones added richness to the narratives, offering a refreshing contrast to the sanitized versions often encountered in more contemporary retellings. In the introduction, Gág writes of her approach to these familiar stories, or Märchen, which she tells as her grandmother had told them to her over and over:Zippes brings that seminal first edition to life in The Original Folk and Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm: The Complete First Edition ( public library), featuring breathtaking illustrations by Romanian-born artist Andrea Dezsö. Her delicate ink-drawing vignettes — intended to invoke the magical cut-paper sculptures for which Dezsö is known — illuminate scenes from the Grimms’ tales through an extraordinary interplay of darkness and light, both of color and of concept. ‘The Frog King, or Iron Henry’ ‘The Three Sisters’ ‘The Wild Man’ ‘Hans My Hedgehog’ ‘The Devil in the Green Coat’ ‘Herr Fix-It-Up’ ‘Okerlo’ I really liked this story, its about family love and sacrifices made for the ones we love. Very moving and touching tale. Was not a fan of this one, didn't like how the musician was unnecessary cruel to the animals who followed him because of his music.
