About this deal

I didn't read Western comics as a child and I don't like superhero movies now. In that regard I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed these comics -- that is, at all. The art is quite good, especially the saturated color and storyboard-style panel framing. The frequent off-modeling is excusable as it's a body horror story. Collects Incredible Hulk #1–6; Fantastic Four #12, 25–26; Avengers #1–3, 5; Amazing Spider-Man #14; Tales to Astonish #59; Journey into Mystery #112.

The art is perfect and does an awe-inspiring job of depicting the massive muscles of the Hulk, and I was particularly engrossed when the Hulk was embroiled in combat or transformation. I could see the sinew in each foot, and the Hulk always looks impossibly strong—it is very striking. Al Ewing's Immortal Hulk takes those horror underpinnings that have been there from the start and cranks them up to 11. This book runs the gamut from body horror to psychological horror to intimate existential horror to sheer Lovecraftian madness, all while plumbing the conceptual depths of what exactly the Hulk actually IS. It takes this pretty well-explored character and finds new, complex ways to look at him, all while featuring some of the most bone-chilling moments and visuals a Marvel book has ever put to print ( the artwork, primarily from Joe Bennett, is both gorgeous and truly disturbing). This honestly reminds me of Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing, in terms of how completely it revitalizes and reimagines the Green Goliath. Creees Lee immortalizes Hulk’s initial confrontation with Betty’s new manifestation of her Red Harpy persona from IMMORTAL HULK #19 The Devil Hulk is an alternate personality of Bruce Banner, personifying all of Bruce's resentment at the way he is treated by the world, and all his negative emotions such as self-hatred. The Devil Hulk is also one of the Hulk's enemies, constantly threatening to escape the confines of Bruce's mind and destroy the world that has tormented and abused them. [1] While the character's physical appearance varies, he is always depicted as having glowing red eyes and reptilian traits. The entirety of Al Ewing's Hulk masterpiece, called one of the greatest comic books of all time, collected in an omnibus! Collects Incredible Hulk Vol. 3 #7.1, 8-15. Also collected in Incredible Hulk by Jason Aaron: The Complete Collection. This starts out great. I'd describe it as being like the X-Files' "Monster of the Week" era where we've got a general premise, but each episode stands alone.

If you like the Hulk, this is a must-read. I remember reading this series issue by issue as it was coming out, and how exciting and groundbreaking it was. There’s a reason it was critically acclaimed. Simply put, Immortal Hulk is Al Ewing’s best work so far. I was already a fan of Ewing’s storytelling, specifically his Ultimates run, but this blows all of that out of the water.Writer Donny Cates and artist Ryan Ottley take over the Hulk. Bruce Banner thinks he finally has total control of his emerald alter ego — and in fact, he might. But variables can happen at any time, and this one is something even his brilliant mind couldn’t have imagined. Now, as Bruce hurtles deep into outer space on a dangerous quest, he’s about to find out that the Hulk isn’t alone! No wonder so many writers attempt to deliver a “definitive” take. Something which cuts through all the history to state, “This is what’s REALLY going on.” Until of course the next ambitious writer turns up and goes, “Yeah but no, THIS is what’s really going on.”

Collects Incredible Hulk #407–419, Annual #20, Ashcan Edition, Incredible Hulk: Future Imperfect #1–2 and material from Marvel Holiday Special #3. Unlike with Bill Mantlo’s run and John Byrne’s, the work of Peter David on Hulk is pretty well collected. We’ll begin with the omnibus editions before looking at the TPBs. The Incredible Hulk by Peter David: Omnibus Editions The Hulk’s original series was canceled after issue #6, but it was not the end. He became the Jekyll/Hyde of the Marvel Universe, two “men” in one body, transforming from the mild-mannered bespectacled physicist into the gray-skinned monster named “the Hulk” when he loses control. When Bruce was affected by Xemnu's mental manipulations, the Immortal Hulk was imprisoned inside of Bruce's mindscape, leaving the Savage Hulk in control. When the Leader finds his way into the mindscape as well via the Green Door and takes over the Green Scar personality, the Immortal Hulk watches as Bruce and Joe Fixit are imprisoned as well. Feeling angrier than ever before, the Immortal Hulk breaks free from his cage and confronts the Leader. Before he can defeat him, the Immortal Hulk is stopped by the Savage Hulk, who is being emotionally manipulated by the Leader.
