The beauty of two-way radio communications is that it provides instant communication at the press of a button, and unlike mobile phones, there are no call charges, no waiting for connections and no network reception issues. The good news is that from September 2016, all V2 versions of the Kenwood ProTalk TK-3501, PKT-23 analogue PMR446 and TK-3401D digital dPMR446 models will incorporate the necessary upgrades to be able to make use full use of the new frequency spectrum. Existing PMR446 portable radios/walkie-talkies are not able to take advantage of the increased 446.1-446.2 MHz bandwidth unless modified and upgraded. A large 7-colour LED indicator on the top panel illuminates to notify multi-status functions including power-on and different unit identification.
