About this deal

Clean and respectable.Cleanliness became a mark of superiority and respectability before it became a requirement for good health. Beginning in the early 1800s, the elite in Europe and North America adopted cleanliness as a badge of their superior status, clearly separating themselves from the dirty masses of laborers, peasants, and the wretchedly poor. Their wealth allowed them to have the water, expensive soaps, and servants to scrub their houses and clothes often— and occasionally their bodies. By the late 1800s, the weekly bath (usually on Saturday night) was a staple of respectable family life in the United States, although in ordinary families the members took turns, sharing the same tub of water. Those who have very sensitive skin may find that they have issues with the higher pH of any soap. In those cases, it may be best to use something like my DIY Baby Wash and Shampoo. (I made it pH balanced for a baby’s delicate skin.) Ingredients Waratah Municipal Council". Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate. Vol.XIII, no.1067. New South Wales, Australia. 14 January 1886. p.3.

One of the methods of making liquid soaps is called the glycerin method. It replaces part of the water with glycerin. Both employees and self-employed workers will pay less in National Insurance from next year, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has announced in today's Autumn Statement.

Why use glycerin when making liquid soap?

Couple photo's to show American 'free enterprise' at it's finest. The first is Colgate's original headquarters at Dutch St. in New York. As far as the "old friend" of the family goes, I would call folk's attention to the fact that Knight would have been 30 in 1889. Speed up the process by warming the water and soap paste over the stove or other heat source (like the slow cooker). Summons Division". Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners' Advocate. Vol.XVII, no.11,574. New South Wales, Australia. 27 November 1890. p.7. The resulting soap paste dissolves very easily in water. I don’t need to heat the water nor do I need to leave it for days at a time. I can cover my soap paste with distilled water and usually, in a couple of hours, I have a beautiful, clear liquid soap effortlessly.

A few minutes later, the mixture will begin to look grainy and look like mashed potatoes or applesauce. Continue to blend. The late professor John Turner wrote: "the modern technology and large scale of the Sydney Soap and Candle Company made it the outstanding industrial establishment of its kind. Upfold had wide experience of colonial conditions and constructed his Port Waratah works on recent British and American lines, in a location which gave unequalled access to tallow and coal." As you continue to blend, it will start to get creamy again. It is now time to cover it and cook it for a while. Death of Mr. Chas Upfold". The Maitland Daily Mercury. No.14,970. New South Wales, Australia. 14 March 1919. p.5.Let's look at the ingredients. Sodium Tallowate first. We've already determined this is not a guarantor of a 'premium' soap though. So, a bit further down I see Glycerin ,no biggie, then I see "Hydrogenated Tallow Acid." Seems there is even more tallow in these. Then I see Coconut Acid. Then I see words I'm too lazy to type-out. Charles Upfold served his apprenticeship as a soap maker with John Knight & Co. [2] at their Wapping soapworks in London, just across the river from the parishes where Charles's father resided and worked. Knight's Castile soap is still sold today. His sister, Eliza, married James Knight. Charles was later a Director of Knights. Some of this article's listed sources may not be reliable. ( July 2013) ( Learn how and when to remove this template message) If I were going to sell a liquid soap, though, I’d do proper microbial testing of the liquid soap to see if a preservative was needed or not. Most natural preservatives on the market aren’t effective at the high pH of soap anyway. ( Euxyl® K 900 is an exception and would be a great preservative to consider for using in soap.)
