About this deal

you guys, this story is unreal. its so morally wrong that you dont even want it to be right. its that luring, that gritty, that bold. You’re one third bad intentions, one third pure avarice, and one eighth sawdust. What’s left, I’ll credit, must be brains.” They say that the Thorn of Camorr can beat anyone in a fight. They say he steals from the rich and gives to the poor. They say he’s part man, part myth, and mostly street-corner rumor. And they are wrong on every count. I most certainly do understand, but I don't enjoy reading about what material a character's coat is made out of unless it will somehow be relevant later on in the story. Scott Lynch does an excellent job of building up this Italian Renaissance-influenced fantastical world. Yes, the world-building is very dense, to the point that one might even struggle to try to keep up with the names and envisioning how some things may look or sound, but for me, that’s just evidence for how much time and effort the author dedicated to creating a deeply detailed world outside our own.

Jean Tannen let his right hand trail in the warm water of the canal while he took another bite of the sour marsh apple held in his left. The forward gunwale of the flat-bottomed barge was a choice spot for relaxation in the watered-wine light of early morning, allowing all sixteen stone of Jean's frame to sprawl comfortably--keg belly, heavy arms, bandy legs, and all. The only other person (and the one doing all of the work) in the empty barge was Bug: a lanky, mop-headed twelve-year-old braced against the steering pole at the stern. These potential cinematic morsels are all over Lynch’s novels, and they’d make for a captivating visual treat that would translate perfectly to the screen. Show me Camorr in all its shady criminal glory…show it to me through the eyes of a thief as he convinces a local noble to fork over half of his fortune. Calo and Galdo Sanza: members of the Gentleman Bastards, humorous and debaucherous twins with a broad skill set

Oh, you can stop poling the barge any time you can beat me hand to hand three falls out of five." Jean grinned, showing two rows of crooked brawler's teeth in a face that looked as though someone had set it on an anvil and tried to pound it into a more pleasing shape. "Besides, you're an apprentice in a proud trade, learning under the finest and most demanding masters it has to offer. Getting all the shit-work is excellent for your moral education." Warner Bros. bought the film rights soon after the book's release in 2006. The brothers Kevin and Dan Hageman were to write the screenplay, with Michael De Luca and Julie Yorn to produce. [4] However, the film rights lapsed in April 2010. [5] Awards and nominations [ edit ] It stole hours of sleep. It wrapped me in cozy myth. It gave me the blessing of feeling like a kid again, snuggled up with a book, wondering how the hell 10pm became 4am. Find. Buy. Consume‘ Pierce Brown, bestselling author of the Red Rising series its masterfully chaotic - so many subplots, so many characters, so much world-building. theres never a dull moment. It’s another month and since March just started I’m once again trying to reduce my TBR with my own blog meme “Hugs’n’kisses OR Dismissed by the Missus/Messrs” .

I've read a lot of fantasy novels, and this is now tied for first place (along with the Joe Abercrombie's Blade Itself).I can tolerate a lot, but what really agitates me in stories nowadays is that they are all so desperate to imitate Game of Thrones in the most shallow and easy way possible (so as to make oodles of money overnight) that they will throw in the trashiest of material and call it solid content. And you know what, people still eat it up and rave about the mature content being so much like their favorite story--Game of Thrones. World Fantasy Convention 2007 | World Fantasy Convention". Here it is in a nutshell: When I was first published, I was irritated when people compared me to Scott Lynch. Only now do I realize how huge a compliment I was being given. William L. Crawford - IAFA Fantasy Award 2007". Science Fiction Awards Database . Retrieved March 18, 2023. Two Elderglass arches bridged the Via Camorrazza right in the middle of Coin-Kisser's Row--a high and narrow catbridge for foot traffic and a lower, wider one for wagons. The seamless brilliance of the alien glass looked like nothing so much as liquid diamond, gently arched by giant hands and left to harden over the canal. On the right bank was the Fauria, a crowded island of multitiered stone apartments and rooftop gardens. Wooden wheels churned white against the stone embankment, drawing canal water up into a network of troughs and viaducts that crisscrossed over the Fauria's streets at every level.

Move us up against the bank just under the bridges, Bug." Jean gestured vaguely with his apple. "His Nibs will be waiting to come aboard." Oops, sorry, it looks like the Fairness Police just caught me in the act again (see how they stop me the slow-mo way? That just goes to show how faithful they are to the author's style).
