About this deal

It cuts out the hassle and worry, too - but does mean you'll be riding an unfamiliar machine, although you may be able to hire that dream bike that you've always wanted to ride. for a coffee. The route is also book-ended by Esporles and Andratx - two slightly larger towns, but also with impressive historic centres and a real authentic charm. The superb road network is heaven for Mallorca road cycling; there are hundreds of potential rides you could do. The difficulty comes when you’ve only got a week and are trying to work out which are the best.

As the Strava file evidences, I took things very easy (I’d like to claim I was climbing well within myself…). It’s the sort of ride that doesn’t require uber-high levels of fitness just to keep moving forward. Take things at your own pace. El top. Or at least El Sign. If your legs are feeling strong, this section is quite fun. The roads are reasonably straight, so you can carry a lot of speed from the short downhill sections and then power on up the other sides. There is a short section on the main road towards Sa Pobla (keep a look out for a right turning with, yes, a wooden sign) but otherwise it’s largely car free jaunt (particularly for us, given our 7.30am start time).Actually, in defence of my ‘best’ claim, two of my routes were featured in a recent issue of Cyclist magazine (in their case they did them together as a single one-day ride, which is certainly feasible for the fenominally fit).

When’s best to go biking in Mallorca, Spain? The island’s reputation is built on being an awesome place for early season training. But if you want to play it safe, don’t go too early. Snow is possible in January and February. November to the end of February is a quieter period for cycling in Mallorca and many cycling facilities (bike hire shops, hotels etc) may be shut or only open for limited hours during this period. Whilst the continent boasts numerous famed and fascinating cycling routes, there’s one island on its map that truly stands out from the crowd and is worthy of a particular mention - Mallorca. Home to some of the most beautiful cycling routes in the world, Europe is a splendid destination in which you can hit the road with your trusty two-wheeled companion and explore some of the most striking natural landscapes, captivating settlements, and blissful coastal regions.Just remembered, there is also a small bike and diving/snorkling shop at Cala san Vicente. Usually closed during the middle of the day like most shops. https://atemrausch.com/english/

Port d'Alucudia is also popular. It's a busy tourist resort again the Ma 12 going along the coast is very busy through the built up areas. The route out to Petra consists of plenty of undulating and flat roads. The place itself is a fairly sleepy town, with a courtyard where you'll find a selection of cafes - including the Bar Restaurante Es Casinowhich serves particularly good large slabs of cheesecake. Cycling climbs in Mallorca come tougher and longer than the Coll d'Honor but that's not why we love it. We love that despite its road surface it provides immediate access to the mountains. The road is a classic Mallorca cycling climb as it winds its through the mountains and it's incredibly quiet, even in the summer months. The climb starts in Bunyola making it a perfect ride from Palma or the flatlands, or of course you can ride the reverse of the route from Port Pollensa. It's also just 4 kilometres away from the southern ascent of the Coll de Sóller. Brief Description of the Route A bike path on the sea-side of the road takes you much of the way along the bay road to Alcúdia. You can then head on normal roads to Mal Pas and all the way along the peninsula to La Victória. The highest point is 444 m. Be aware of all the non-cyclists on the bike path: skaters, runners, wind-surfers coming up from the beach… it’s one of the factors making this one different to other Mallorca bike routes. Port de Pollença – Alcúdia – Sa Pobla – Pollença – Port de Pollença loop Other facilities include a spa, sauna, Turkish bath, ice fountain, heated pool, smallish gym and speed tennis court (the hotel can supply kit). But surely, you say, I’ve missed a golden (tarmac) opportunity to ride my own finely-tuned velo on Mallorca’s magic carpet roads, and instead have had to make do with a sub-par steed? Thankfully the gradient eases off as you reach the middle and upper section of the climb. The climb took me 38 minutes (which Strava told me was my third best time… of three attempts.) Most seasoned cyclists consider this Mallorca’s ultimate route — but at 115km and with almost 2,500m of elevation, it’s not for the faint of heart. The main draw of this day ride is that you cover most of the majestic Tramuntana Mountains while flanked by long stretches of sparkling sea, steep valleys and sheer cliffs. It also traces a good chunk of the Mallorca 312 route — a 312km lap of the island and the setting for Mallorca’s biggest road cycling race. This epic sportive is an annual affair which takes place in April each year. Initially, it circumnavigated the coastline - but the route has since been changed to allow for closed roads. You can ride 312km or 167km, and this event sees the island pretty much taken over by cyclists. It gets booked out early though.

Sa Calobra is probably the most famous cycling climb in Mallorca. Its iconic snaking bends, superb road surface and incredible views make it Many of these routes are partly taken from the rides on our cycling holidays on the island, which you can find more information about below. 1 Llucmajor

Another coke. Another couple of bottles of water. Another solo pep talk. (And, randomly, half an orange, which came free with the coke). And I finally dragged myself over the top of the pass (where, as expected, I felt no desire to stop and take a photo of the bloody sign). But one of Mallorca’s other, less talked about virtues, is that it works whether you’re on a cycling training camp or with your family/non-cyclists. There are towns, accommodation, bike rides and things to do to suit everyone. Need we say more? Just go! Want to cycle Mallorca? If you’re visiting on a Tuesday, the town hosts its weekly market, selling fresh produce, artisanal goods, and other essential items, which is open from 9 am until 2 pm. So, should you want to spend your Tuesday morning cycling in Puerto Pollensa onwards to Campanet, you’ll be met with delicious foods, intriguing craft items, and other intriguing goods on your arrival.
