Where this design stands out is that it is very easily upgradable, and access to the internals doesn’t even require tools. The right side of the case is only held on with a couple of plastic lugs and magnets, making access a breeze. When choosing which mini PC is best for you, there are several factors to consider - but first, it's important to be sure a mini PC is right for your needs. There are a few hardware aspects that a buyer needs to contend with. The first of these is that because of the dual M.2 slots, the number of PCI lanes for USB was limited. There are five USB ports, but only one is USB 3.2 Gen 2, and the rest are Gen 1.

Performance tests are conducted using specific computer systems and reflect the approximate performance of Mac mini and iMac. More colourful than most office PCs and with more of a game console vibe, the AD08 might look less out of place in a child's bedroom. But despite looking like a powerhouse on paper, the AD08 doesn’t perform that well when presented with tasks that require heavy multi-threading or raw GPU performance. Overall, the AMR5 doesn’t fall into the usual tropes of a mini PC, and it has some potential for many different roles. The AMD Ryzen 7000 series processor in this tiny computer has eight cores and can process sixteen threads, making it one of the most powerful small system platforms. Combined with 32GB of DDR5-4800, a Gen 4 NVMe drive and a chipset that includes Thunderbolt, a 2.5GbE LAN port and Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX2111, expect a very positive user experience. The small size means there’s no room for full-sized ports, but there’s a micro-USB On-The-Go (OTG) port for connecting devices, and a mini-HDMI output – and the Pi’s trademark 40-pin general input/output (GPIO) connector is here too, although you’ll need to solder the pins on yourself if you want to use it.
Its processor, a brand-new Ryzen 5 4500U, blows away the likes of the Minix Neo JS0C-4 on both single-core and multithreaded performance, and its integrated graphics can even handle some light gaming. Dirt: Showdown ran at a playable 30fps at 1080p, even with graphics settings on Ultra. Mini PCs, sometimes known as think clients or NUCs, are ideal for light use, such as web browsing and video streaming. Some can even handle casual gaming sessions. But you won't find the raw power offered by the likes of the best mobile workstations. Compared to the cheaper NUC systems that use Intel N5095 or N5105 processors, the Ryzen 5 5600U is on an entirely different level. All those cores and threads make this a powerful processor that is as capable as many desktop processors. GMKtec has a reputation for making good quality small systems that won’t break the bank, and the NucBox M2 is a prime example of precisely that.With dual memory modules installed, the K1 is easily fast enough to blood the nose of the Intel NUC 13 Pro and trounce any Core i5 or Celeron-powered machines. Access for memory or storage changes is remarkably easy and doesn’t even require the removal of screws. The problem it faces is that it’s competing with systems that use either more recent Ryzen designs or the latest Intel 13th gen processors that use DDR5 memory. The DRR4 RAM in this design comes in copious amounts, but the bandwidth on offer is the Achilles heel of this platform, as it reduces the performance of the integrated Radeon RX Vega GPU. Both sides of the machine feature RGB LED lights that cycle through a rainbow colour scheme that is visible through small triangular holes in the case.
