It is sometimes called the Dragon Sword of Fire (e.g. Kai: Ninja of Fire, Official Guide), to distinguish it from the Sword of Fire's original representation as a golden katana in the first wave of Ninjago sets. Though it is Lloyd's main weapon in the sets and trailers for The LEGO Ninjago Movie, he does not wield it in the film itself. In " Ghost Story," the Sword of Fire is replaced with an ordinary golden katana when the weapons are used to see if Morro is destined to be the Green Ninja. Though this was previously thought to be an error, Tommy Andreasen has asked, "Might Wu have made a terrible mistake and laid down the wrong sword? Was Morro intended to become the green ninja but robbed of his legacy by Wu’s negligence?" [4]The Sword of Fire is able to engulf its blade in flames and shoot fireballs at enemies or objects. It can also transform into the Blade Cycle if the wielder can maintain their focus.

In set 70503 The Golden Dragon, Lloyd's gold ninja variant wields the Sword of Fire even though it was shot into space by the time of " Rise of the Spinjitzu Master" and Lloyd said in that episode that he didn't need a sword. Kai brought the Sword of Fire along with him when the ninja journeyed to Jamanakai Village to stop Lord Garmadon, though didn't use it as the threat turned out to be the dark lord's son, Lloyd. The Sword was in its hiding place in the secret compartment before Aspheera opened it. She then took the Sword for herself. In some sets, it is called the "Golden Dragon Sword," [citation needed] as the piece was also used to represent the Golden Ninja's sword (even though the Golden Ninja did not have a sword in the show). After the Crystal Council were bestowed with new powers, the Overlord handed the Sword of Fire, now known as the Sword of Destruction, to Aspheera. When Lloyd evaded the Council, Aspheera used the Sword to try stop him. The prototype of this Dao should be a Niuweidao(oxtail saber), they have same shape blade and curved handle.
