In Splatoon 2, the Octoling amiibo speak with many grammatical errors and unusual phrases in their dialogue (most notably the Octoling Octopus). This is likely due to the Octarians not speaking Inkling often. In Splatoon 3, this is not the case and the Octoling amiibo speak in a more normal manner. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, any Inkling amiibo can be scanned to become Inkling Figure Players that are saved onto the amiibo. The Squid Sisters, Off the Hook, and Octoling amiibo grant their respective spirits instead. If the player scans either of the Squid Sisters amiibo while in Inkopolis Plaza during Photo Mode, both of them will disappear from their seats inside the studio and the character that was scanned will spawn right next to the player.
Like in Breath of the Wild, each Splatoon Amiibo can be scanned in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom once a day for various in-game items. If the amiibo were used during a Splatfest, the player was able to take a photo on-stage with Off the Hook. Some amiibo have discrepancies between their in-game appearances and the appearances of the figures: The Squid Sisters amiibo allow the user to view concerts in the plaza, similar to a Splatfest. The three reskinned amiibo have the same behavior as their original counterparts. The challenge trees are shared between the original and reskinned amiibo. In Chibi Robo! Zip-Lash, tapping any amiibo except the Chibi Robo amiibo gives the player in-game coins. Holding down on causes all Splatoon costumes to lie down in their squid forms, with the same sound used when turning into a squid in Splatoon. When playing on an underwater level, all costumes swim in their squid form. During the Splatoon 3 Direct on 10 August 2022, a new set of amiibo were announced, although, unlike other opening waves, these were not available at launch. The Inkling (Yellow), Octoling (Blue), and Smallfry amiibo were eventually released on 11 November 2022. It should be noted that none of the above bonus items are necessary to enjoy the game to its fullest, but they're fun perks and fashion accessories to enjoy if you happen to own any of the amiibo. More amiibos are planned to be released during the holiday season — new Splatoon 3 versions of the Inkling Girl, Inking Boy, and Inkling Squid — but we don’t know what they’ll reward you with yet.
