About this deal

Our testers found it excellent as promised for clothes and furniture and “effective but inconsistent” on rugs and carpets. Pet parents with flat carpets are likely to have the most success, but the small device still takes a lot more passes to clean a carpet than the larger bristle-style rakes. We recommend it for clothes, furniture, and carpet touch-ups or hard-to-reach places. Rubber brooms are fast becoming one of the best dog hair broom designs on the market, as well as the most popular. The soft rubber bristles act like a pet hair magnet, attracting trapped dog fur and gathering it into an easy, manageable mass. The idea to use rubber to gather hair more easily makes this unique to other brooms. I used the hair-capturing EcoBrush head on my carpets, which uses the suction of the vacuum to spin the brush, scooping pet hairs into an aperture that’s narrower than on the standard Henry head so that the suction power is more focused. It’s very noisy and not quite as good as the motorised brushes on costlier pet vacs, but did a decent job of lifting hairs and was easy to push around. Angle brooms are designed very much like a traditional broom, however, the bristles have been cut at an angle for easier access to the hard-to-reach places. An angled broom is particularly helpful for narrow spaces, like between furniture, or around corners.

These work similarly to the wet rubber gloves, except that cleanup is a lot easier. Instead of wiping the hair off the gloves, you can simply peel away the hairy layer from your lint roller. Ensuring you brush your pet regularly not only keeps their fur and skin healthy, but helps minimise hair loss. Your vet or groomer will be able to recommend the right brush, comb or shedding tool that will work best for your pet's hair type and breed. Cordless vacuums are on their way to being the only game in town: people love how light and portable they are compared to corded vacuums, especially in flats and small houses. Your mind might automatically cast to Dyson. But cheaper and more widely available, American challengers Shark now rival them in popularity.Colour and material are also areas to think about. Darker tones tend to hide issues better, and if you know your pet dog is accident-prone, it could be worth investing in this from the get-go. Another option could be a darker patterned carpet to keep things interesting without losing that upside. Finally, when it comes to materials, you want something hardy and stain-resistant. We all love a wool carpet, but if you have dogs or other animals that come and go from the outside in, this may not be a good call. Wool takes a bit more work to maintain, as it sows more stains and tangles with hair. A nylon-based carpet, meanwhile, would resist stains and be easier to brush out. A good pet vacuum needs special attachments for removing pet hair, which can be finer than human hair, making it more likely to cling to fabrics due to static electricity. Hair can also easily clog the bristles of a standard vacuum cleaner head, reducing its ability to sweep up dirt. There are various configurations of the QX9 but pet lovers should opt for the QX9-Anim, which comes with AEG’s Motorised Pet Nozzle attachment. This is a miniature version of the main motorised foot, which can be attached to the handheld unit and used to lift the pet hair out of upholstery. For the price, it’s also impressive that this model comes with two batteries. That’s particularly useful, because if one battery runs out, you can charge it up while you’re using the other one, giving you twice the cleaning time of a single battery.

The next step in keeping your carpet clean, once you’ve chosen it and had it installed, is to invest in the right tools for the job. Getting hair out of carpet can take forever and be a tedious task. Thankfully, there are some good items you can use to speed up this process, from rubber gloves to carpet rakes! We’ve listed a few examples below, and how you can best use them as a pet hair remover for carpet all over your home. The bristles were effective on longer-fiber rugs, but primarily where pet hair was longer than the carpet’s pile. And as with most of the long-handled rakes, you’ll want to have another tool like a vacuum on hand to clean up the fur and crumbs you unearth. It’s me, hi. I’m the problem. It’s me.”– Roo as she leaves confetti behind in every home she visits.

The long-handled Lebrush carpet rake has a dual-sided brush. One side is flatter, like a lint brush, and the other has silicone-coated metal bristles. Our testers found the lint brush side works very well with short fiber rugs—so well, in fact, they had to clean it after every couple swipes with the handy mini brush that’s included. A good filter is absolutely key. The ‘pet smell’ in houses comes from dander: microscopic particles of skin, saliva, sweat and other proteins which can be as small as two microns (two thousandths of a millimetre) and can hang in the air for long periods of time, before settling into every fibre of your carpet and upholstery. You want to make sure that when you vacuum the dander up, it stays vacuumed. We’ve all seen how static electricity attracts hair to balloons, right? The same principle applies here when we use a dry rubber glove. But when we want one of the best pet hair remover options in the carpet world, a wet glove works wonders. It won’t get deep set hairs out, but if your pet is shedding, this is great for clearing the top level of your carpets and other furniture. While the handle could be sturdier—it breaks down into sections for easier storage/shipment, which creates flex points—the tool is easy to store anywhere you already keep a broom or vacuum, or in smaller storage areas if you take it apart. Most impressively, this model boasts Shark’s most advanced anti hair wrap technology to date, removing strands from the rollers as it goes along. Unlike previous Shark models it’s almost 100 per cent effective, and that’s coming from someone with four long-haired cats (and two Labradors).
