About this deal

Court of Appeal and High Court Judges no longer wear wigs, wing collars and bands when sitting in open court in civil and family proceedings; the new civil robe is worn. People use their robes in all sorts of ways, so all of them are best for something – style, economy, compactness, skin feel, size available or coming in the particular colour you want.

Weather-proof on the outside, roomy on the inside and usually featuring a warm, fleecy lining, the changing robe emerged more than a decade ago to keep surfers warm and sheltered from the elements while they changed out of their swimsuits and wetsuits. Intentionally oversized, their spacious design creates a portable changing room for the wearer, allowing them to slip their arms out of the robe sleeves and discreetly remove wet kit from within it – all while staying cosy and protected from the wind and rain. When you do wash your robe, you should do so at no more than 30 degrees C with a slow spin cycle. After the first 4-5 full washes you’ll need to boost the DWR with a special outdoor kit washing liquid (Grainger’s/ Nikwax or similar) at no more than 30 degrees C, again with a slow spin cycle. From 1 October 2008, High Court Judges adopted a single set of red robes for criminal proceedings throughout the year, rather than different sets of robes for summer and winter. Apart from this there was no change to court dress worn by judges when sitting in criminal proceedings. Civil and Family jurisdiction – The new civil robe Dryrobe’s pioneering changing robes were originally designed for founder Gideon Bright to use after surfing, but more than a decade later, they’ve saved the bacon of many a hyperthermic obstacle course racer and are loved by outdoor enthusiasts and cold-water swimmers alike (including Ross Edgley, who wore one during his Great British Swim challenge). A blustery November day by the river at Farleigh Hungerford swimming club saw Kate Rew, Rosie Nottage and Arron Collins-Thomas test a selection of eco-friendly robes. We selected robes which are readily available in the UK, have solid environmentally friendly credentials and were sent in to our testers. We included our own Red, Fourth Element and dryrobes which showed how older products perform.Laundry detergent is designed to break down grease and oils, and with the DWR coating looking a lot like grease to detergents, we only recommend doing this every 3 – 6 months depending on how much wear the robe has had. With kids comes lots of sand, water and dirt, so keeping their robe clean is one of the best ways to preserve its life. To keep your robe in tip-top condition, follow these simple tips: SUSTAINABILITY: Charlie McLeod scores very highly on the eco-credentials. With an outer made of 100% recycled and inner 95% recycled PET plastic (GRS certified) – approximately 110 recycled plastic bottles go into every cloak.

Short-sleeve or ¾ sleeve robes allow greater arm movement (helpful when removing a wetsuit, for example) and are better for milder days, but if you want your robe for the coldest, wettest weather and require max warmth, longer sleeves offer greater coverage and protection. Poncho or traditional style Circuit Judges, in accordance with their wish, continue to wear the same gown and tippet less the wig, wing collar and bands. Kids are well protected thanks to its technical 8k/3k waterproof PVC-free DWR fabric which has been designed to provide excellent water run-off on days when the rain and surf roll in. The design favoured by a judicial working group incorporated coloured bands to identify seniority. The chosen colours were: Try to spot-wash the Kids Dry Pro Robe unless it’s really filthy. As with all DWR-treated fabrics, the more you wash the less treatment the garment is exposed to, so as a general rule try to minimise thorough washes to times when it’s absolutely necessary.

They’ll be the envy of all their school buddies in Red’s robust changing robe, designed to suit all scenarios from rainy bus stop waits and pitch-time playoffs to all-weather adventures on the beach. When you see the photographs, you have the police, the protesters, and these weird signature characters in-between. It’s a powerful image.” Stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons with our refined Kids Pro Robe in tomato red – providing your youngster with unparalleled protection against the elements.
