About this deal

The Riley RS1 features a handy digital dashboard displaying your current speed, battery level, drive mode. Firstly, high-quality gadgets and technology products tend to be more reliable. This means that they are less likely to break down or malfunction. When you’re relying on a product for an important task, such as work or communication, reliability is key. Investing in a high-quality RILEY RS1 V2 Electric Folding Scooter can give you peace of mind and help you avoid frustrating situations where your device fails you.

Although there are no specific laws in place, we also recommend riders wear a helmet and always follow the manufacturer’s safety guidelines. Of course, the big plus point here is the removable battery. In practice is a removable battery that useful? For convenience, it’s definitely handy to have a removable battery for easily recharging it at, say, a workstation in an office – instead of having to bring the RRS1 physically into the office (ditto at home). From a comfort point of view, the RS2’s 10in tyres do a good job over potholes, and I could swap terrains from pavements to grass and concrete easily without changing speed or losing control. Cruise control is another welcome addition, especially if you’re riding long distances. The Hummingbird uses a 300W electric motor with regenerative braking and can reach the UK maximum-allowed speed of 15.5mph with ease. Point it towards a hill and it’s equally at home but the speed of climbing depends on the weight it has to carry. At 95kg (15 stone), it struggled on gradients more than about 10% but still got up most stuff. If one of my friends was looking for their first electric scooter, I’d point them in the direction of the RS1, time and time again. Reliable, practical, and simply a smile-inducing riding experience, this is a scooter I could confidently ride every day.The Riley RS1 is a great option for those looking for an affordable electric scooter. It offers a decent range of 15 miles and a high top speed of 15 mph. The killer feature here is the removable battery, which makes recharging a dream, and cruise control is also a really useful feature. I've found that's enough for short commutes and other short local trips, although the battery level indicator seems very unreliable – it would vary wildly during a trip – sometimes going up and sometimes going down.

Out of the box, not much needs doing to the Riley RS1; you will need a small hex key (supplied) to tighten the brake and you'll need to screw on the handlebars. It's a simple process and takes just a few minutes. I found you could really carry speed through corners, and not have any fear of losing grip or slipping. Tyres on the Hummingbird are 8.5 inches in diameter and they are solid rubber. While this means there is zero chance of punctures (there isn’t any air to escape!), it does mean that the ride is harsher than air-filled equivalents. We found that on smooth tarmac, the ride was fine, but as soon as we ventured over gravel and rougher woodland routes, it became a bit more jarring. Not a major issue for the occasional foray off-piste, but probably not the best scooter if that’s going to be your main pursuit. The onboard E-ABS brake helps you regulate speed going downhill, while also recharging the battery. There is also a smartphone app for the Kirin which is also well designed and actually useful! It allows you to remotely deactivate the motor of the scooter, set cruise control (meaning you don’t need constant thumb pressure on the throttle), search for Google Map destinations and look at the usual ride stats. As apps go, it was one of the best – and not the cheapest scooter in the range! Before we go any further, it is important to clarify that electric scooters are classified as Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs) and therefore illegal to ride in the UK unless you’re riding on private land with the landowner’s permission. Offenders caught could be penalised and receive points on their driving licence. In contrast, e-scooters are legal in most European countries and US states. We recommend riders always wear a helmet and follow the manufacturer’s safety guidelines before riding. The Riley RS1 gets around this problem by using puncture-resistant tubeless tyres, similar to those used by professional mountain bikers. The tyres are a decent 10 inch in diameter which gives decent ground clearance and excellent ride quality on all but the roughest footpaths. You can also run tubeless tyres at lower pressures than normal which adds again to the electric scooter’s ride quality – I weight 95kg (about 15 stone) and set the tyre pressures to a reasonably low 40psi at front and 45psi at the rear. Braking – it’s good to be able to stop! The innovative onboard computer uses an LCD display for displaying the speed and battery remaining range.

Riding range, comfort and hill-climbing are the most important aspects to consider when choosing your e-scooter and, from a range point of view, the RS2 comes out well. After five miles of riding in the fastest (Sport) mode, I still had three bars of battery life left out of five, and you can swap the battery out for another should you need it. In addition, high-quality gadgets and technology products tend to have better performance. This is particularly important for products that are used for tasks such as gaming, video editing, or graphic design. A high-quality RILEY RS1 V2 Electric Folding Scooter is likely to have better specs and features, which will translate into better performance and a better user experience. The front wheel houses a 350W hub motor which is capable of running at a not-inconsiderate 700W peak power at maximum throttle. This means a top speed of about 15.5 mph (25kph) can be reached which is more than enough for me – I was getting the jitters at around 10mph! The top speed is software limited, and you are likely to void the one-year warranty if any attempts at modifying this are made. To top it all off, its lightweight folding aluminium alloy frame weighs just 13kg, making it highly transportable! So on your next adventure, enjoy the freedom to explore with the RS 1 Electric scooter. The Riley RS1 Scooter features a large 6.4Ah battery located in the head tube which can be removed when not in use. There are three power modes which can be set on the display so if you’re new to riding electric scooters you can start at the lowest (6mph max) and work your way up. It can be quite unnerving at first to have so much power at your disposable derived from so little expended effort. You soon get used to it though! Braking and Ride Quality Our adult electric scooters come in a wide variety of builds, whether you’re looking to stay economical for minimal use or looking to power up. You’ll find our power range boasting an additional suspension, larger or dual motors as well as more powerful brakes so you can ride through router terrain without worrying about the strength and stability of your adult electric scooter.
