About this deal

Sieglinde von Motteberg—the Great and Terrible Sieglinde—came down to hover comfortably above her coffin.

Summoned to the Ghostly Realm for the murder of the Orphanmaster, Leo must complete three tasks to prove herself worthy of her unlife, each more treacherous than the last. Can Leo convince the Ghostly Realm of her innocence and earn her freedom, or will she be trapped there forever? This book is a funny take on what it is like to be a real-life vampire and all the good and bad things that go with it! If you like comedy, thrills and suspense then you will definitely like this book as it has strong characters and a good plot throughout! After one hundred years of being a vampire, it’s time for Eleonora to have her Birthnight. Since Leo’s last rite of passage, her Grimwalk, ended with her losing her right leg and a good deal of her confidence, she’s hoping to redeem herself in the eyes of her mother, the fearsome Lady Sieglinde. All Leo has to do is hunt down and kill her first prey, and she already has the perfect plan. After all, who will miss an orphan from the bleak St. Frieda’s Home for Unwanted Children? Immortality - The afflicted never age and are immune to disease and illness, allowing them to live for hundreds if not thousands of years. [1] [4] [5]Despite her sympathy for Lord Ayman—or what was left of him—Leo couldn’t help but feel sorry for herself too. Was Sieglinde really going to miss Leo’s special night? Bestselling author Alexandra Christo, author of TikTok sensation To Kill a Kingdom, introduces her new book, The Night Hunt (Hot Key Books), a dark... Conversion - The afflicted are able to spread their supernatural virus onto human beings by letting humans drink some of their blood, therefore transforming these humans into the afflicted. Rodrigo! OMG, he was such a fantastic character! He made me laugh and he reminded me a tad of Colin from Mr. Penguin series. Witchcraft / Voodoo - The afflicted are susceptible to witches and voodooists' magical powers. The witch Queenie was able to use her Injury Transference power to hurt Ramona Royale. [10]

Concilium - The afflicted possess some limited control over others' minds, which they often use to seduce hapless men and women. In 1977, Elizabeth prevents a producer from taking advantage of Ramona Royale by glancing at him and commanding him to leave, and he does so without question. In 2010, James March employs Elizabeth to hypnotize John Lowe into forgetting that he's the Ten Commandments Killer by offering to give her John's son, Holden, in exchange. When Elizabeth and Donovan go to a showing of Nosferatu in 2015, they attract the attention of a human couple merely by turning their gaze on them, causing the couple to turn their heads from watching the film to watching Elizabeth and Donovan. Elizabeth later uses this power on Donovan when he refuses to go to Will Drake's fashion show, and then on Tristan during the events of said fashion show, preventing him from stabbing an attendee. Leo's mum is keen to be the leader of the Vampire Council, so she is hosting a Blood Moon Banquet at Castle Motteburg. Everyone is in a flap especially Leo's Nanny (Leo likes to call her her butler), Margred who is in charge of everything being more than perfect. Mum is preparing to leave for an important Vampiric Council meeting and tells Leo that no Motteberg has ever failed their first bite and she doesn’t believe Leo will either. So no pressure! I enjoyed reading Rules for Vampiresbecause it had excellent descriptions. The full idea, theme and progression of the story really makes you want to read on. The author has also really imagined what it is like to be the main character and it makes it a lot more enjoyable. The plot, about a young vampire who makes two enemies and has to try and stop them from overpowering the vampiric world, is very engaging and fun to read. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy fantasy but also people who like mystery and adventure. I liked this book because of the genre since I like adventure books but I also loved the descriptive sentences and it really makes, I think, everybody feel like they're in the book. As an avid reader, this book will surely make you want to read and read and read and never stop. It is a very fun book and I think the author's world he has created is brilliant. I would rate this book 9/10.Neurons and Mental Illnesses - Damage or degradation of neurons due to disease cannot be healed by becoming afflicted, but rather prevented from progressing. As a result, those with such illnesses in life will still have them after being turned. [6] We are introduced to the timid but hot headed Leo who is now 111 and on the day of her waxing moon she doesn't make it and meets the Orphan master. At the start of the story when we are introduced to the Orphan master he is mean and hates children, but as I got into the story it tells me why he hates kids so much. Although Leo never gets to bite a human on her grim walk a ghost is twice as good. The Nevermoor series meets Hotel Transylvania in this “delightful and spooky” ( Booklist) debut middle grade adventure set in a world of talking spiders, living forests, and haunted castles about a vampire girl who wants to fit in but first must defeat an evil ghost. However, sometimes I felt like this book did not engage me all of the time but the ending made up for it.

So whilst her mother is away at a vampire council, Leo sets off for Otto’s End to bag herself a human. She heads for St Frieda’s Home for Unfortunate Children and all goes well until she meets the Orphanmaster. Then Leo accidentally sets fire to the orphanage, creating two ghosts – one friendly, one most definitely not. This summons is for the murder of the Orphan Master, who was only a ghost for a few seconds, but ghost laws still apply. If she doesn't attend the trial, the threat of a ghost / vampire war is laid out clearly before her. What to do? So far, then, we have all we may act upon, and let me tell you that very much of the beliefs are justified by what we have seen in our own so unhappy experience. The vampire live on, and cannot die by mere passing of the time, he can flourish when that he can fatten on the blood of the living. Even more, we have seen amongst us that he can even grow younger, that his vital faculties grow strenuous, and seem as though they refresh themselves when his special pabulum is plenty. Illustrator Sara Ogilvie’s distinctive style introduces the characters’ likenesses and the plot action as you read, pulling you even further into the story. You see, Leo is a vampire, her mother the most evil vampire around, and Minna is a ghost. Minna pops up in shiny things to talk to Leo when she's in her room, or even visits Castle Motteburg when no one else is around. Vampires and ghosts are actually supposed to be sworn enemies, so they keep things very low key. If Leo's mum found out, Leo would be mere dust in seconds. A vampire and a ghost being friends is unheard of. It makes no sense. The two factions have despised one another for all eternity. But . . . Leo the vampire and Minna the ghost have battled together side-by-side, they're sisters-in-arms, they're best friends, and they'll have to work together to vanquish a new, deadly threat.

But he cannot flourish without this diet, he eat not as others. Even friend Jonathan, who lived with him for weeks, did never see him eat, never! He throws no shadow, he make in the mirror no reflect, as again Jonathan observe. He has the strength of many of his hand, witness again Jonathan when he shut the door against the wolves, and when he help him from the diligence too. He can transform himself to wolf, as we gather from the ship arrival in Whitby, when he tear open the dog, he can be as bat, as Madam Mina saw him on the window at Whitby, and as friend John saw him fly from this so near house, and as my friend Quincey saw him at the window of Miss Lucy. Will Leo and Mina save the human and vampire race from being taken over by the orphan master or will the orphan master take his revenge? Dapo Adeola, Tracy Darnton, Joseph Coelho and Chitra Soundar are among the 19 authors and illustrators longlisted for the Inclusive Books for Child... The prosthetic leg! Leo has one because of an incident with her Grimwalk and I love it (well, not the incident that was just sad, but that someone in a book has a prosthetic leg). There aren’t enough books with characters, especially kids, with prosthetics and I can just imagine the happiness at seeing someone with one in a book!A vampire and a ghost being friends is unheard of. It makes no sense. The two factions have despised one another for all eternity. But . . . Leo the vampire and Minna the ghost have battled together side-by-side, they're sisters-in-arms, they're best friends, and they'll have to work together to vanquish a new, deadly threat. One of the best middle-grade vampire novels I have ever read. So much is happening, the characters are all fascinating in their own way, and it’s funny! Straighten your cape and sharpen your claws . . . being a vampire is harder than it looks! The spookiest story you'll read this year from Alex Foulkes, illustrated by Sara Ogilvie. Brilliant! It's a deadly funny, twisty, gothic romp with the loveliest vampire. Sara Ogilvie's illustrations are the perfect match.' Jenny McLachlan, bestselling author of Land of Roar
