If you are building a steam shower then you should know there are very specific ways to build these types of shower enclosures to manage both the water and water vapor that these will be exposed to. Liquid-applied membranes can be used in two ways: as a standalone waterproofing system or as a complement to other systems. As a standalone system, I tend to use them for small areas like tub surrounds and other places where a superflat surface and a uniform layer of thinset are paramount— under small mosaic tile, for example, where excess mortar would squeeze up through the gaps.
