After selling the ICOM, I had an SG500 amp for a time and now have a Henry SS750 solid state amp, And I also use it with my Drake L-4B running around 800w Smart car exterior parts including wheel bolts, fuel flaps, wing mirrors, grills, bumper trim, mud flaps etc for the fortwo from 1998 up to 2007. Smart fortwo clutch kits, transmission seals, drive shaft, abs rings, and gearbox parts for all smart fortwos from 1999 up to 2007. Smart fortwo accessories and interior parts such as cup holders, cd holders, luggage nets, armrests, sill plates, interior coloured trim, etc for the smart fortwo (451) 2007 - 2014. Also, as others have noted, they are not suitable for a 5 Watt QRP transmitter like the Yaesu FT-817, since they require at least 3 Watts to tune reliably, and the transmitter output protection reduces power output below 3 Watts as the tuner tries different high SWR combinations while searching for an acceptable match. My only HF antenna is a vertical 40 feet (12 meters) wire inside a Spiderbeam fibreglass pole, installed on my roof. I have set up 8 radials (of different length, not cut to any particular length) on the roof, and connected this setup to the CG-3000. I own a IC9100 and no amplifier, but anyway I have been able to work a lot of DX with 100W and this really economic homebrew antenna.

This way, the tuner automatically receives power whenever the radio is turned on. I've read comments about overloading that accessory power output causing damage, so I plan to add a tuner power fuse in the new interface box to protect the radio just in case. I currently have it connected to an approximately 300ft wire that makes a 90 degree bend at about 200ft......and it tunes 160-10m.
I spent years thinking about mobile HF antenna options, with just a Wilson 1000 and a 10 meter radio in the vehicle. Finally decided on the SG-237 to tune the same antenna, and paired it with an FT-857D. I have been using for over 5 years an SGC-235 coupler in a mobile installation using the QMS and SG-303 whip along with the SGC 500 watt amp and an Icom 706MKII. I originally started out with a QMS/303 whip and SGC230 coupler using an Icom 735 in the mobile. Then I wanted to move up to 500 watts, so I swapped out the 230 for the 235. I still have the 230 by the way--that is also an awesome coupler! I did have to add a ceramic insulator to the QMS box. I have since moved the radio and tuner to a different vehicle, though now feeding a different whip of similar length due to a completely different mounting configuration. It still works very well. A word of warning - as if it were needed, but there are muppets out there - reduce the power when tuning ALWAYS! The circuit does not like it when you plow 150 to 200 Watts into it whilst its tuning a band for the first time, seems obvious but to one or two it isn't..(D'Oh)........ As a precaution, as the info sheet does not list such specifics as min/max temperature operating range, I mounted mine unit inside an exterior grade plastic box, as used to mount electric meters etc. Electro mechanical devices definitely don't like rapid changes in temp or extremes of either!!

For ALL models of Smart Fortwo & Forfour (453) from 2015 - 2020 Smart car fortwo parts including interior and exterior accessories, trim, body panels, brakes, lights, sensors, switches, service items, engine parts, exhaust, suspension and steering parts, turbos & wheels. You must have a GOOD ground! That means there should probably be as much wire on the ground as you have in the air. A simple copper ground rod will not cut it. I have 5 radials 135ft long spread out over the ground underneath the radiating wire. I did run it for years with a single 300ft wire buried PLUS 2 ground rods with *ok* results. It improved greatly with the addition of the 5 radials. I would venture to guess that more wire on the ground would improve it. The only real fly in the ointment is the instruction book (sheet really) - okay, I accept it doesn't need to be as detailed like that for an FT2000 etc. but there are some ambiguities in it and some poor translation to boot. Tidy this aspect up and I would happily give it 5 out of 5 every time.!We only buy from bona fide suppliers.. This means that customers from outside of the European Union can buy without having to pay the VAT, and customers from within the EU (except Mainland UK) who are VAT registered, can also buy without VAT (subject to providing a genuine VAT number). I am on my second 235 coupler. Something went wrong with the "brain box" after a couple of years or so and it was replaced with a complete new unit. Warranty was 5 years when I bought mine, but is only 1 year now :( I think inadequate grounding is the root of most problems with couplers such as these, and grounding becomes more critical with higher power levels.
