About this deal

Conversations: Creating a Universe – 8 minute feature, new for this release, with Joe Johnston (from ILM) and Roger Christian (a Star Wars set dresser and a second unit director) who meet and discuss their time on the franchise at the Skywalker Ranch. A number of interviews titled: Tatooine Overview, Mark Hamill Interview, Anthony Daniels Interview, Aboard the Death Star Overview, Carrie Fisher Interview, and Battle of Yavin Overview. But this is a treat – until this point, only the newer movies The Force Awakens, Rogue One, The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story have been made available in 4K, and none offered the premium Dolby Vision viewing experience. Unfortunately, Rogue One, Solo and Episode VIII: The Last Jedi aren’t yet on the new service.

Showcase scenes: The opening shot of Star Wars with the large starship rumbling overhead never looked or sounded better. Whilst the artbook has a great front cover I just don’t see anything exclusive enough in this box set to warrant such a steep price tag. The republic of Naboo battles the Nimoudian federation; Darth Vader is a 9 year old boy named Anakin Skywalker, and Obi Wan Kenobi is a brash young Jedi knight.

Star Wars Saga Unboxing

A streaming service uses higher compression and lower bit rate to reduce the file size to make it easier to stream. Also on 4K UHD for the first time is Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens along with Rogue One which is set just before the original 1977 Star Wars film in the story’s timeline. It’s here! Tuesday, March 31st, 2020 will be a day long remembered, as it marks the arrival of Disney and Lucasfilm’s complete Star Wars Saga on the new 4K Ultra HD format—all 9 Skywalker films and the two Star Wars Story anthology films as well. Showcase scenes: The skiff chase in the Pasaana desert not only provides sharp visuals but fantastic directional audio that will use every speaker in your system or make your soundbar work overtime. It’s the first time we’ve see the Prequel Trilogy on 4K and look impressive but despite being made more recently they don’t match the amazing quality of the Original Trilogy.

A New Hope stars the iconic character of Luke Skywalker (portrayed by Mark Hamill). Following the death of his aunt and uncle at the hands of the Galactic Empire and their army of stormtroopers, Ben Kenobi (Alec Guinness) trains the young moisture farmer in the ways of Force. Side guide

And this goes for all 4K discs – they will always offer higher quality than their streaming version even though they have the same 4K resolution. With all that in mind here’s our take on the best scenes in the Star Wars films that will make you appreciate the quality you can enjoy from the 4K disc. And while there may be the same 4K resolution you don’t get the same depth of colour, the same brightness or the same sharpness around objects and finer details like hair and skin texture.

Discoveries from Inside: Weapons & The First Lightsaber – 3 minute short with Roger Christian and J.W. Rinzler looking at weapon props inside the Skywalker Ranch art archive.

This saga is steeped in history yet what accompanies the set doesn’t honour or make that history feel special whatsoever. Before you ask, yes, sadly, it's the George Lucas tweaked Special Editions of the original trilogy, so you'll have to blink at just the right moment if you still want Han to shoot first. Star Wars was shot using a combination of Arriflex 35-III, Panavision PSR R-200, Panavision Panaflex X and Panavision Panaflex cameras on 35mm film, and has been newly scanned with 4K resolution for this release. It should be noted that the latest ‘Special Edition edit’ has been the source for this scan, it therefore contains much of the colouring inherent to that release. The disc presents a native 3840 x 2160p resolution image in the widescreen 2.39:1 aspect ratio, and uses 10-bit video depth, High Dynamic Range, and is encoded using the HEVC (H.265) codec for HDR10. We reviewed the Region free UK Ultra HD Blu-ray release of Star Wars on a Panasonic 65DX902B Ultra HD 4K TV with a Panasonic DMP-UB400 Ultra HD Blu-ray player. The 4K disc of The Last Jedi is newly authored—it no longer includes Dolby Vision HDR (per Disney’s new norm). All of the Blu-rays in the set are newly-authored discs—they are not the same as those released previously. The Last Jedi movie Blu-ray now includes the Score-only version of the film and its Bonus Blu-ray now includes the Meet the Porgs retail exclusive featurette. Most (but not quite all) of the previous Blu-ray special features are included in this set. Most of the previous DVD special features are not included—and of course, the original unaltered theatrical cuts of Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi are not included. Clone Wars rage across the galaxy. The sinister Sith Lord seizes control of the Republic and corrupts Anakin Skywalker to be his dark apprentice, Darth Vader. Obi-Wan Kenobi must confront his fallen friend in an epic lightsaber duel.
