The Impala is capable of killing the Akrida and Joan Hopkins due to it being from another universe. It is the only known thing capable of killing them aside from soul-powered magic. The car has been prominently featured on the series, beginning with the teaser of the pilot which shows John Winchester holding his two sons as he sits on the car and watches his house burn. The trunk is revealed to hold various weaponry to fight the supernatural. The car is Dean's most prized possession, and he protects it with nearly the same ferocity with which he protects his family. According to Dean, in the series, "Baby" is powered by a 327ci V8 Turbo-Fire engine fueled by a four-barrel carburetor, putting out 275 hp, which was not the most performant version in the stable. The show had a total of nine different versions of the model, using it for different purposes over its 15-seasons run. Baby 1, the Hero Car, which provided the sound of the engine and the creaking of the doors, and Baby 2 were used for the exterior shots, and Baby 3 was set up with multiple cameras for the interior shots. And they also had two "extras," usually towed, and several cars whose doors and windows were removed because they obstructed the camera angles. Sam inherits the car following Dean's death in the series finale. The Impala remained with him until his old age. It is not known where the car went after Sam's death, but it may have been inherited by his son. Sympathy for the Devil Bobby drives the Impala to the hotel to meet the boys, although we only see his legs as he gets out of the car.

Later, Sam asks what Dean would do if someone stole the Impala as a hypothetical parallel to the dilemma they are facing and Dean states that he would "murder them all." As Sam continues talking about the case, Dean ignores him and tells Sam that "there'd be torture first, like a lot of torture. And then it would end up with death. If I can't have it, nobody can," causing Sam to realize he's still talking about the Impala possibly being stolen. Later, while waiting for Sam to finish in the auction, Dean has a conversation in the car with Father Lucca Camilleri about God and faith. Pontiac Acadian - In season 7, Dean and Sam have to ditch the Impala to avoid detection. Therefore, Pontiac Acadian is their ride in the Impala’s absence. In The Winchesters, the Impala has the original license plates because Dean brought the car with him from Heaven. In Pilot, a ghost possesses the Impala and tries to run Sam and Dean over. Later, as Sam is driving the Impala, the ghost takes control of the car again to make him drive her home. Sam drives the Impala through the front wall of her home and comes to a stop in the living room, where she is confronted by the ghosts of her drowned children and destroyed.
