About this deal

Prime's driver uses an equally capable no-expense-spared crossover, the SVS SoundMatch 2-way crossover. Its tapered arrangement is designed to minimise the potential for beaming leading to a broad yet focused and accurate soundstage with precise frequency response from all listening positions. The precise tuning guarantees pinpoint accuracy of highs, mids and lows while preserving pristine signal purity. Performance Driven Dual 6.5" woofers produce simply deep and articulate bass to set the mood and punctuate the low-end impact of instruments, basslines and movie sound effects. Each woofer has a separate internal compartment in the cabinet with its own custom port tuning frequency. The result is deep, powerful and accurate bass you hear and more crucially, feel. SoundMatch Crossover Home theaters running Dolby Atmosphere Speakers represent the pinnacle of immersive home audio experiences. The prevailing approach to Dolby Atmos speakers, bouncing sound off the ceiling from below, requires perfect room conditions and frequency response limiting of the speaker and detracts from the experience. These speakers were loaned to me by SVS directly. I was not paid for this review and SVS has not seen the review prior to public release.

The problem is, the Play-Fi app simply isn't very good. The design is clunky and unintuitive, and doesn't feel like it's improved in the couple of years that the app has been around. It simply feels slower than it should. For the record, we never experienced any glitches or dropouts in the app, but it's just not up to speed with its competitors. In driver terms, the SVS partners a 1 inch (I’d use millimetres but the land of Imperial measures doesn’t) aluminium tweeter partnered with a 4.5inch polypropylene midbass driver. The most notable aspect of this partnership is the manner in which the crossover is implemented. Instead of a passive design - which you would expect to find in a passive speaker, the SVS uses a digital crossover system. This is derived from the technology that crops up in the company’s subwoofers and SVS says is helps to ensure the relationship between the drivers is optimal rather than ‘close enough.’ We return to Kurt Elling’s latest funk album, SuperBlue: Guilty Pleasures . The exacerbated presence effect plays its role perfectly on this recording with both impact in the bass, warmth in the voices and extension in the highest frequencies which remain detailed without being overwhelmed by the rest of the message. The notion of power has never been more apparent to us with amplified bookshelf speakers. We doubt SVS processes the signal to adapt it to what we want to hear. But why hold it against them when the result is so well controlled? While the physical connectivity of the new SoundBase is impressive for a device in this category and especially at this price, its I/O section isn’t overwhelming, so there isn’t much to discuss in terms of connecting cables and such. In addition to its wireless connectivity and shiny new HDMI eARC port, the amp features line-level stereo RCA inputs and outputs, a 3.5mm stereo line-in, an optical digital in, and a subwoofer output, the latter of which is a full-range mono-summed preamp out. There’s no bass management here, so make sure any sub you connect to the SoundBase has its own low-pass filtering.Dolby Atmosphere Speakers: These speakers provide down-firing height effects when placed high on a side wall, offering superior performance compared to compromised "ceiling bounce" solutions. Sound Power represents all of the sounds arriving at the listening position after any number of reflections from any direction. It is the weighted rms average of all 70 measurements, with individual measurements weighted according to the portion of the spherical surface that they represent. Early Reflections Directivity Index (EPDI): is defined as the difference between the listening window curve and the early reflections curve. In small rooms, early reflections figure prominently in what is measured and heard in the room so this curve may provide insights into potential sound quality.

Sound Power Directivity Index (SPDI): In this standard the SPDI is defined as the difference between the listening window curve and the sound power curve. There’s a lot to like about the Prime Wireless SoundBase, notably its lively, dynamic sound. This little amp punched way above its weight, though at times it could sound a tad edgy.I don't like these speakers in a stereo living room setup. They would probably be great in a home theater with auto correcting receiver and subwoofer. The below graphic indicates just how much SPL is lost (compression) or gained (enhancement; usually due to distortion) when the speaker is played at higher output volumes instantly via a 2.7 second logarithmic sine sweep referenced to 76dB at 1 meter. The signals are played consecutively without any additional stimulus applied. Then normalized against the 76dB result. The Prime Bookshelf speaker hosts a 1" aluminum dome tweeter which is light, efficient and rigid, and reproduces crystal clear at high volumes. The clarity brings a sense of utter transparency while offering an ‘airy’ audio reproduction and incredibly clear highs so vocals, dialogue and high pitched sound effects and musical content always sound crisp, even and natural. SoundMatch Crossover The innovative no-compromise SVS SoundMatch features 3.5-way crossover and tapered array designed so each woofer has its own discrete crossover to prevent beaming and create an expansive yet focused and accurate soundstage with precise frequency response at all listening positions in the room. The SoundMatch Crossover tuning process ensures pinpoint accuracy from lucid highs to palpable lows with pristine musical purity. Cabinet Design and Geometry The Listening Window is a spatial average of the nine amplitude responses in the ±10º vertical and ±30º horizontal angular range. This encompasses those listeners who sit within a typical home theater audience, as well as those who disregard the normal rules when listening alone.

Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 26th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) The finish and build quality of this speaker is quite nice and I didn’t detect any resonances from the enclosure itself. I’ve reviewed speakers that I thought sounded better and cost less. For example, the Emotiva B1+ and the ELAC Debut 2.0. However, they do not have the finish and overall build quality of the SVS Prime Bookshelf. Also by default, Play-Fi downsamples hi-rez audio to 16/44.1. To play hi-rez files in their native resolutions, you have to enable Critical Listening Mode: Tap the Hi-Res Audio logo in the top bar of the app’s Zone module, which shows all the Play-Fi devices on your network. Critical Listening Mode can be used in only one zone at a time -- you can’t stream in hi-rez to multiple zones simultaneously. High-resolution audio sounds fantastic on this powered speaker system—with or without the help of a subwoofer—and you can play music from a diverse collection of sources and services, with or without wires.” ’Tech Hive’.Up or Down-Firing Front, LCR or Centre Channel Speaker: When placement at ear level isn't possible, these speakers can be positioned above or below the viewing area, directed at the listener. To be with you at every step. From envisioning a serene evening with your favourite album to setting up the Using the Yamaha as a UPnP server, the Prime is a game of two halves in music. Even though the quoted frequency response of the Satellite is roughly the same as the Q Acoustics 3010 and thus something you might try without a sub, my experience suggests that this is not especially effective. Where the Q Acoustics manages to hide its limited bass extension rather well, the Prime seems to roll off more abruptly and leave you feeling that there should be more to the performance. The crisp top end and excellent handling of vocals don't fully compensate for this. A reimagining of the integrated stereo amplifier for the streaming age, SVS Prime Wireless Pro SoundBase marries audiophile-grade components, effortless power, multiple streaming options, and intuitive control. Simply add speakers for an uncompromised listening experience. However, there's nothing wrong with connecting a subwoofer if you have a spare. We actually have an SVS model in the office - the superb SB-1000 Pro ( full review here). We had great fun linking the two systems together, but the bass that the Prime Wireless system delivers through its twin 5" woofers is more than satisfactory, with the level of punch and power that we found surprising. The clear, tight, compact character of the low-end never felt like it needed additional help. Although it must be said, we did wonder what would happen if we still had our review model of the SVS PB16-Ultra ( full review here). Sadly, we had to return it, which meant we couldn't experience the combination of the the Prime Wireless partnered with the Ultra's 1,500 watts...
