About this deal

Much of the story is hidden within allegory, so if you aren’t willing to deal with Coelho’s magical realism, this can be a difficult book to get through. For me, it served as an interesting companion to my own trip down the Camino—I found myself a much stronger person (physically and emotionally) than I realized I was. There were some truly eerie moments on my walk that I couldn’t really explain, which I think attests to Coelho’s work and the magic of the Camino. I didn’t have a guide the way Coelho did, but I found that walking with my mother caused me to re-think where I was in my life and the role we played in each other’s. My mother had served as a guide all my life, but in the end, I finished my walk alone. Paulo's journey isn't only a mental one but also a physical and spiritual one. Paulo must walk the entire seven hundred kilometers. He cannot take any short-cuts, or he will risk being denied the acquisition of his sword for the final time. Besides walking the entire road Paulo must climb up a fifty-foot waterfall, battle a demonic dog, and raise a fallen wooden cross. In the midst of these physical tests Paulo must learn to search his spirit for the wisdom to understand the truth behind his sword. Jorge Luis] Borges said there are only four stories to tell: a love story between two people, a love story between three people, the struggle for power and the voyage," Coelho has said. "All of us writers rewrite these same stories ad infinitum." About seven months ago, my mother and I took on the Camino de Santiago from Sarria, Spain, to Santiago de Compostela. It was one of my favorite memories of last year, and it required much more out of us than we had planned in a number of ways. As many know, the Camino de Santiago isn’t just a hiking trail, but it’s also been an important pilgrimage for centuries. It has served as a spiritual and personal journey for many, so I was excited to dive into The Pilgrimage by Paulo Coelho. Only after defeating arrogance can you be the owner of your steps and path, the architect of your dreams. Details Original Language: Portuguese Paolo Coelho (born in 1947) dreamed of becoming a writer even at a very early age. His parents did not want him to so he took up Law. Still he persisted despite getting hooked on drugs during the hippie 60's. In 1982 he published his first work, Hell Archives that did not make any impact. In 1986, he published his second book, The Practical Manual for Vampirism that he himself took off the shelves as he realized that it was of "bad quality." Since the publication of The Alchemist, Coelho has produced a new book at a rate of about one every two years. In a somewhat unusual scheduling ritual, he allows himself to begin the writing process for a new book only after he has found a white feather in the January of an odd year. As odd as that may sound, it seems to be working. His 26 books have sold more than 65 million copies in at least 59 languages. So, I have finished this novel or let's say autobiography in 12 days, but I couldn't digest the whole story!! So I asked for help from my old friend "Google" and he was of a great help as usual. A spiritual journey of self-discovery and personal growth along the ancient Way of St James, a christian pilgrimage route that was famous through all Middle Age, and still persists to this day.
