More of The Thing • Network TV Broadcast Version of The Thing (480i; 1:33:45) is sourced from pretty spotty looking video. a nice reproduction of the film's dialogue, fun sound effects and nice Ennio Morricone score. There are some ambient differences apparent within each creating a more spacious listening area and boosting some of the more complex sound elements, such as when the creature extends to the ceiling andUniversal has released Director John Carpenter's cult classic 1982 Horror film 'The Thing' to the UHD format. New specifications include Universal's Blu-ray maximizes the impact of John Carpenter's overachieving creature feature The Thing. The Canadian and Alaskan scenery is breathtaking. The elaborate sets for the research station and the stunning special effects -- all concocted before the advent of computer generated imagery -- only improve with the added detail of 1080 lines of resolution. Only an icy matte painting or two seem to suffer, and look a little flat. Ennio Morricone's score provides minimalist rhythms over the titles and credits that sound identical to Carpenter's own film scores, but he also adds tense strings to heighten the mood in several scenes. The lossless Blu-ray audio brings added clarity to the unworldly howls of the alien Thing.
