DISC TWO: 2016 2K Scan of the Interpositive (1:48:34) Supervised and Approved by Director of Photography Dean Cundey Explicit direction effects are used sparingly but effectively, as are low frequency effects, which come into play adding a bit of grunt to explosions and gun shots. Of the three Titans of Cult releases so far, I think this is the best one yet. The main steelbook artwork is easily on a par with the excellent Blade Runner one, while the inclusion of the additional mini steelbook a definite improvement over the coasters and poster we’ve seen previously.Next, as usual for ToC releases, is an exclusive, themed pin badge. Once again this is well designed, and feels solidly built. As a Titans of Cult release, the film marks a huge – but nonetheless welcome – shift away from the type of genre movies that have been released by the label so far. First up, the 3 movie discs are housed in a newly-designed steelbook, and I have to say this is stunning piece of work. The artwork itself, based around an iconic steering wheel design seen in the film and some previous marketing materials, is excellent, and accented with some subtle glossing and embossing. This new release gives you the movie in 4K, with a transfer taken from a 4K scan of the camera negative, and spruced up with a dash of HDR. The transfer here is not groundbreaking by any means, but is still a decent upgrade over the Blu-ray. When it comes to classic gangster movies, there are basically two that always top the list – The Godfather (ok, maybe The Godfather Part 2), and Goodfellas.

Titans of Cult will only decide a fillm title for a release as part of Titans of Cult label if there is already available a existing 4K UHD disc of that film from the film studio distributorDialog is still clear above all the mayhem, and in the few quieter moments, the mix shows a lot of subtlety. Meanwhile, Junkie XL’s score keeps things moving at a tremendous pace, and is equally immersive, making full use of all the speakers in your setup.
