About this deal

We all know smartwatches don’t boast the best battery, and this one is no different. The 700 mAh battery is said to last three days on standby. For us it was more like 2 days, but that was with some fiddling with functions. When switched off, press and hold the button on the right side of the device to switch the watch on. The smart watch has space on it for pictures (which you can take with the front-facing camera or save from messages) and music, which you can send via message. Scan the QR code shown on the watch and type in your watch's phone number. Make sure that you enter the number of the SIM-card that is inside the watch. It’s surprisingly big and bulky too. At a chunky 60g, the Xplora XGO 2 weighs more than a 45mm Apple Watch Series 7, and its fat watch case swamped my six-year-old’s wrist. Though he seemed happy to ignore it, in all the excitement of having a smartwatch to play with and that heft might prove less of an issue for larger wristed, older children. However, for those older children, there are faults here that are likely to be more frustrating.

One huge positive for many parents is that the XGO2 does not feature any social media and none can be installed, which will no doubt come as a blessed relief. Additional features on the XGO2 include a torch, calendar, alarm and stopwatch. When it comes to features, the XGO2 pulls ahead of the smartwatch competition, in quantity at least. The watch is also a pedometer, measuring your child’s steps and distance walked. This earnsXploraCoins, which can be exchanged for virtual rewards. That said, kids do tend to fiddle with gadgets quite a lot, so we could imagine having to charge this watch up every day if they are planning on using any of its features regularly. That may be a dealbreaker for some, but it’s not dissimilar to other feature-heavy watches. Make sure your watch is fully charged. If the watch previously ran out of power, it might take up to 15 minutes of charging before the watch can be switched on. After creating a user account, the app will prompt you to add a watch. Press "Add device", then "Scan code". Give the app permission to access your camera. While the frequency or charging might be a pain, the mechanism for doing so on the watch works really well, with a magnetic charger included in the box. Xplora XGO2 review: Verdict

X5 Play eSIM: The eSIM should have both unlimited voice minutes and around 150 MB of mobile data per month. Data volume depends on the personal use.¹ Important: We cannot guarantee the compatibility of different providers, even if they use the same network of those listed below. Children are excellent little mimics. Whatever Mum or Dad has, they want the same. Smartphones, tablets, fitness bands, smart watches. If they see a parent playing with something, naturally they want something similar of their own. Competitively minded youngsters can also challenge for pole position on the app's activity leader board - going up against other wearers in the world - and a top three placement could land a decent tech prize, such as Bluetooth speakers, kids' tablets, instant cameras and drones. Not too shabby - and it all helps to keep your child active.

The watch itself is hard to use even for an adult, the screen is tiny and poor quality, the key features are buggy and the battery life is really poor. I spent far too much time explaining to a little frowning face, why something wasn’t working. He also pointed out that the frustratingly dim, built-in torchlight is awkwardly positioned on the top right-hand side of the watch chassis, making it hard to direct what little light it does shed. The beam barely made it beyond the top of his hand. He was also completely miffed when on more than one occasion the Xplora XGO 2 froze with the message “Unfortunately the watch has stopped.”

Press and hold for approx. 20 seconds to switch the device off. The SOS alarm will be triggered when switching off the device this way. Alternatively you can switch off the device through the app or through the device's settings menu without triggering the SOS alarm. With a SIM card installed, the wearer can make and receive voice calls - and talking on a wristwatch still feels deliciously futuristic - using pre-saved numbers only, specified and controlled by a parent in the app. No unsolicited, spammy calls can get through. network is gradually being switched off by EE during 2023 and will be shut down entirely in 2024. This may have an impact on the network connection quality of some of our watches in some locations. This list is being updated and only applies to the watches currently sold on our web shop - watches with an older firmware might not be able to use all the SIM cards on this list.It took a little effort to open up the sim card slot, but once the sim was in properly (I’d recommend watching their YouTube video, and note that the the sim card needs to be pushed right in which may not be obvious) and registered, it was easy to pair the watch to my phone using the Xplora app. Functions of the Xplora XGO2 The wearer is rewarded with 'Xplora Coins' for every 1,000 steps taken, which can then be 'spent' on the Goplay gaming platform. It's harmless fun and good motivation for any child that likes to connect hard work with a reward. Merch and games branded with children's favourites such as Peter Rabbit, Dr Who and Tom & Jerry (a T&J pinball game is one example reward available) await the more animated active participants. The 3G network has been switched off in Germany. This means that all the 3G devices: Xplora 1 and Xplora Care, will no longer work properly. We recommend buying our most recent models: XGO3 and X6Play. They all connect to the 4G network offering therefore much better connectivity.
