In fact, the X7’s third-row seats are even more spacious than those in the Q7 andLand Rover Discovery. Even a couple of six-footers will fit comfortably enough. Access to the third row is good, too, thanks in part to wide rear doors that reveal a large gap to clamber through. A Volvo XC90 will be cheaper to own, and the Land Rover Discovery is a more rugged and capable family hauler, but the BMW X7’s blend of quality, luxury, high-tech equipment and superb refinement make it a compelling option – if you can get your head around its looks.
