About this deal

It was a good murder-mystery story. There is no argument about it. But the problem is that its full potential is realized only towards the very end of the story. This is both due to the presentation being monotonous and the writing being repetitive. It took half the book to make me interested in the story. But when I became fully engaged, I could overlook the flaws mentioned and continue with more ease.

Here's my big issue with this movie: the mystery is not interesting. The outcome of this whodunnit is pretty obvious early on. Moreover, it is not explained well in the end. The movie feels both perfunctory and bored with itself. There are some interesting characters particularly Jamie Dornan's Dr. Ferrier and his son Leopold played by Jude Hill. On the other hand, Tina Fey is not good in this. She's out of place and takes you out of the movie every time she speaks, which is unfortunate. Poirot advises the police to search the woods near the quarry. The search finds Olga's body in an abandoned well, stabbed in the same manner as Ferrier. Fearing another murder, Poirot sends a telegram to Mrs Oliver, instructing her to take Judith and her daughter to London. Nicholas and Desdemona have been stealing from Joyce and intend to use the money to travel to St. Louis, Missouri, which they fell in love with after seeing half of Meet Me in St. Louis at a displaced persons camp. A Haunting in Venice is a 2023 American mystery film produced and directed by Kenneth Branagh from a screenplay by Michael Green, loosely based on the 1969 Agatha Christie novel Hallowe'en Party. It serves as a sequel to Death on the Nile (2022) and is the third film in which Branagh reprises his role as the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. [5] The ensemble cast includes Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jamie Dornan, Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, Riccardo Scamarcio, and Michelle Yeoh. Hallowe’en Party is set in in the English village of Woodleigh Common, and concerns the disturbing events of a Halloween party. One of the guests, a 13-year-old girl named Joyce Reynolds, seeking attention, tells everyone that she once witnessed a murder, but that she didn’t realize it at the time. None of the guests take her claims seriously, and she storms off in agitation. Later, she’s founded drowned in an apple-bobbing tub. One of the other guests calls in Hercule Poirot to solve the case. Of course it turns out to be more complicated than anyone first guessed, and soon the whole village is drawn into the fray.Ariadne Oliver, the well-known crime novelist, was at the party and highly distraught about poor little Joyce. She calls upon her good friend Hercule Poirot to investigate and discover who's responsible for this murder in a quiet English village...

In late 1926, Agatha's husband, Archie, revealed that he was in love with another woman, Nancy Neele, and wanted a divorce. On 8 December 1926 the couple quarreled, and Archie Christie left their house, Styles, in Sunningdale, Berkshire, to spend the weekend with his mistress at Godalming, Surrey. That same evening Agatha disappeared from her home, leaving behind a letter for her secretary saying that she was going to Yorkshire. Her disappearance caused an outcry from the public, many of whom were admirers of her novels. Despite a massive manhunt, she was not found for eleven days.

Unfortunately, your legacy remains that of an unrepentant liar and even your avengers soon grow weary of your string of lies and deception. Turn from the truth, little soul, fly away! But wherever shall you go?

The book begins slowly, pouring all sorts of irrelevant details and descriptions over us as if Christie hadn’t yet decided in which direction she was going to take the novel and what information would end up being useful. Even when the murder takes place—the murder of a 13-year-old girl at a Hallowe’en party—there isn’t a lot of drama.

What people are saying about A Haunting In Venice

The crux of the story sees Poriot trying to work out was guilty of a murder that had been committed a few years ago. The motive was, alas, money. After finding out Rowena cheated on her late husband with Garfield, her wealthy aunt Mrs. Llewellyn-Smythe took her out of her will, leaving her fortune to her maid Olga instead. So Rowena tried to restore her inheritance, removing Olga out of the equation and involving a lot of now-dead characters in her plan. Vlessing, Etan (July 19, 2023). "Kenneth Branagh Battles Supernatural Forces in 'Haunting in Venice' Trailer". The Hollywood Reporter. Archived from the original on September 15, 2023 . Retrieved September 10, 2023. While everyone is preparing for a Hallowe'en party at Rowena Drake's home in Woodleigh Common, 13-year-old Joyce Reynolds tells everyone she had once seen a murder before. When the party ends, Joyce is found dead, drowned in an apple bobbing tub. Ariadne Oliver, attending the party while visiting her friend Judith Butler, calls on Hercule Poirot to investigate. Hallowe'en Party is a work of detective fiction by Agatha Christie and first published in November 1969.

One thing that is fascinating following her longest running series is the social climate of the time, with this being first published in 1969 Christie had plenty to say on the sexual revolution at the time. At a Hallowe'en party held at Rowena Drake's home in Woodleigh Common, thirteen-year-old Joyce Reynolds tells everyone attending she had once seen a murder, but had not realised it was one until later. A little braggy girl swears loudly that she's seen a murder done years ago. No one believes her because she's known to be a bit of an ass that lies to make herself look better. Maxime, who was not initially invited, broke off his engagement because Rowena did not approve of him, and Alicia was obsessed with keeping her mother happy.

Poirot also reveals that Judith is not really a widow. She once had a brief affair with Michael Garfield, and Miranda is the child of that union. The Butlers met Michael again by chance years later; though fond of Miranda, Michael was willing to kill his own child to satisfy his need to create. Satisfied with Poirot's help, Judith thanks him. His first effort in 2017 Murder on the Orient Express also underwhelmed me but did exceedingly well at the box office however his last effort in 2022 Death on the Nile flopped and for me also had nothing of the grandeur or appeal of the original film adaptations. During preparations for an 'eleven plus' teenage Halloween party, thirteen-year-old Joyce Reynolds brags about once witnessing a murder. Known to be a bit of a fibber liar storyteller, no one believes her, causing her to stomp out and run home. Yeoh, is great as usual. Her emphasis and incredible manner of speaking as elegant, fun, and so poised still enchanting to this reviewer, but at the same time dives into the extreme bouts of the horror that sort of works at me most times. Agatha Christie also wrote romance novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott, and was occasionally published under the name Agatha Christie Mallowan.
