About this deal

A model for the pattern of florets in the head of a sunflower was proposed by H. Vogel in 1979. [17] This is expressed in polar coordinates r = c n , {\displaystyle r=c{\sqrt {n}},} θ = n × 137.5 ∘ , {\displaystyle \theta =n\times 137.5 The plant flowers in summer. What is often called the " flower" of the sunflower is actually a "flower head" ( pseudanthium), 7.5–12.5 centimetres (3–5in) wide, [4] of numerous small individual five-petaled flowers (" florets"). The outer flowers, which resemble petals, are called ray flowers. Each "petal" consists of a ligule composed of fused petals of an asymmetrical ray flower. They are sexually sterile and may be yellow, red, orange, or other colors. The spirally arranged flowers in the center of the head are called disk flowers. These mature into fruit (sunflower "seeds"). Here is a multi-headed sunflower currently growing away on my allotment. The other flower heads haven’t quite opened yet but you can clearly see all of the flower buds. Sunflower On My Allotment With Multiple Heads

A true miniature when it comes to growing sunflowers. This variety makes for the ultimate potted sunflower plant! Growing only about a foot high, the Junior sunflower has a dark inner circle and bright yellow outer petals. Not only does it stay compact in pots, it also make a great hedgerow or bed edging plant as well. Seed Link : Junior Sunflower Seeds I must say that I do quite like it and if I was to grow sunflowers as a cut flower then this would definitely be a better choice over a standard giant sunflower. It really is hard to beat the incredible beauty and elegance sunflowers bring to your landscape. From tall to small, big to large, and everything in between, the stately sunflower can be found in a vast variety of colors and sizes. From massive sunflowers that tower along a barn or fence row, to a myriad of mid-size and miniature varieties that can fill flowerbeds and containers with vibrant color, there is a sunflower to grow for every space and place.Perhaps the best part of all to growing sunflowers is just how easy they are to plant and maintain. Sunflowers are fast growers that love warm soil. And because of that, they can be directly seeded into flowerbeds, gardens and containers.

What is very obvious about this too is that each head is on quite a long independent stem coming away from the main stem of the plant. The Mammoth Grey Striped sunflower (pictured above) and the Skyscraper variety are two of the largest sunflowers of all. They certainly can big interest to your landscape and produce an amazing harvest. Autumn Beauty Sunflower

A sunflower seed beginning to sprout through the earth. Growing sunflowers is not only easy, it can provide a valuable food source for birds, wildlife, and you! So as I said earlier, there are just varieties of sunflower that naturally produce multiple heads rather than one massive singular head, here are a few of them. Autumn Beauty That is what has most probably happened, but there are also certain factors that can, very rarely, cause a regular giant sunflower to produce multiple flower heads.
