About this deal

Hi, on a similar vein I am contemplating upgrading my water and heating controls to the HIVE system. Currently I have a BG RC Plus Wireless Programmable Room Thermostat linked to a BG WR1 receiver to provide heating control. For water control I have a BG UT2 Single Channel Timeswitch/Controller. This is connected to a CS1 Tank Stat via wiring centre. The boiler is a conventional BG 330+. I have a separate water tank. There are two separate Drayton zone valves for water and heating. Lastly there is a pump. This system was installed by BG in 2011. Fit a proper thermostat, one that will keep working. And if you can't diy, have anyone but BG do it. Next, Paul started on the boiler. He identified that my boiler was fitted with a 13amp mains fuse, and promptly changed this for a 3amp fuse (a nice touch), then worked to disconnect the wired connection from the boiler to the wall thermostat.

Next, he installed the Wireless Receiver. This receives a wireless signal from the new thermostat controller. The Receiver is screwed to the wall next to the boiler, with two cables connecting the Receiver to the boiler. We'll be adding further updates on how we're finding Remote Heating Control. Given that we're not exactly having a warm summer in the UK, we suspect we'll be needing to make more use of our home's heating in the coming months, so let's see how we get on. Related Links: Q: what happens if you do Peters step by step and it doesn't work and the Red light won't go off after - the receiver appears to have 'frozen and I came home last night at 00:30 and found the display had died and after spending 15mins working out how to replace the batteries l then spent till 2am browsing the web to find out how you get the two units to talk to one another. Random button pressing was not working!!! If your heating is scheduled to be on but isn’t switching on, it could be because of the temperature it’s set to.I have also had problems, not with same model of wireless thermostat, but it did have me pulling my hair out trying to work out what was going on, until the fault got to a very bad stage. Q is: has anybody else had my original problem - led display on remote blank - and found a way to sort it? and Regular listeners to our podcast will know that in recent shows, we've been reporting on various energy-saving products from British Gas. Following on from our look behind the scenes at their HQ in Staines, we're pleased to report that we're now taking part in the "Don't Take Our Word For It" campaign, where British Gas install products into the homes of tech bloggers and podcasters, to get some independent views on how the Smarter Homes products work. I have seen other posts regarding issues with these units but they don't seem to be quite the same as my problem. In the middle of July 2012, British Gas installed their "Remote Heating Control" system into Pete's house. Here, you'll find an overview of the installation process, handy for anyone considering getting the service. We've also created a video and audio podcast to help explain how installation works. What is happening now is that if I press button 2, sometimes the green light will light but will switch off again as soon as I release the button. For those without a smartphone, the Controller can receive text messages from any mobile phone. During set-up, multiple SMS users can be added. You also have the option to set up a heating schedule during setup, or later. We opted to do this later, accepting the defaults provided. My search proved in vain as l could not come up with any posts to do with RC1 or WR1. I went to bed with an extra duvet at that point. Hi.... I have recently had a problem with my central heating timer and suspect it is the wireless receiver unit which has either failed or has a loose wire but would value opinions if anyone could offer advice...

Make sure both battery compartments are out on the 'Wireless Display' and the screen has gone blank, takes about 2 mins to fade With this in place, Paul then turned his attention to the rather dated looking thermostat in our hall. He removed this, and was able to fit the new unit in place of the old one, as you'll see below. As the footprint of the new controller is larger than the thermostat, this was a neat installation. Push button 1 followed by 2 and hold them both depressed together Red LED will flash for 2 secs then go out (learn mode) British Gas Remote Heating Control Installation If you're considering getting the British Gas Heating Control system, you may be interested in how the system is installed. I sourced a new thermostat but can’t seem to link it to the receiver following the instructions online (below) or provided with the new thermostat. The part about a blinking red light and linking just doesn’t happen, a full red light stays on and no linking seems to take place. The batteries died on my wireless thermostat and there were no instructions or manuals from the previous owner of the property.I am probably going to get someone in to look at the boiler at this point as it seems to think its hotter than it actually is First off, Paul set up the small Hub (pictured below), which plugged into the router, in my case, the BT Home Hub. You'll need a spare Ethernet port on your router, and a nearby mains plug.
