About this deal

The Chambers of Purity lie deep below the Grey Knights' fortress-monastery on their Chapter homeworld of Titan in the Sol System, at the entrance to the ancient and shadowy vaults of Mount Anarch. This ensures that the Purifiers guard against the evil that slumbers therein. As per other Space Marine Terminators, these also have the Teleport Strike ability, allowing them to deploy as reinforcements, mid-game, anywhere on the battlefield more than nine inches from an enemy.

As Psykers, the Purgation Squad is able to take advantage of several powers to further enhance their effectiveness. They know Smite , of course, plus Astral Aim , and whichever power their Brotherhood grants them. The Grey Knights are an all-elite army – deadly at range with storm bolters on nearly every model, absolutely lethal in melee, and equipped with some of the finest wargear produced in the Imperium. To top it all off, every single one of them is a Psyker of some skill. It’s hardly fair to your opponents, but that’s sort of the point. Every Bit the Powerhouse They Should Be Intensely psychological, character-driven story arcs of certain persons show them falling victim to their own ambitions – which are immediately and masterfully exploited by the ever-watchful dark gods. For no matter how pure and virtuous one may come across, true evil always can (and often does) find the easiest way to one’s heart... The actual portrayal of the daemonic incursion is different than, say, in Guy Haley’s Shadowsword but still rather vivid, as is the two feuding Chaos gods’ contest for a single human soul (an ideal example thereof being Commander Vendruhn). Descriptions of chaotic violations to the Sandavan cities are extravagant to the point of downright opulence, yet the human spirit’s path to damnation is rendered highly believably, with the seduction of Imperial citizens occurring deceptively slowly yet (almost always) inexorably.

Looks like the new Castellan Crowe 40k miniature is indeed a Primaris size, so what does that mean for the rest of the Grey Knights? Even so, Crowe must be forever on guard, for the sword's sibilant whispers echo endlessly through his mind, offering to add its strength to his own in the pursuit of victory. Many men would embrace such a chance, thinking their will would be strong enough to control the sword.

The Blade of Antwyr is a Grey Knights relic and Daemon Weapon, currently wielded by Garran Crowe. Although Crowe wields the Blade of Antwyr, he does not draw upon its otherworldly powers lest it destroy his very soul, and instead uses it as he would any blade of sharpened steel. Finally, we have another jaw-dropping example of Castellan Crowe – this one’s loaded with holy script,*** and even has magnetised heads so that he can easily switch between helmeted and bare-headed options without having to go through the full armouring ritual . When compared to a normal strike squad model, he really towers over him, meaning, if GW ever revamps the line, there’s a chance they could get a bit bigger… As iconic as it is, er, ‘divisive’ within the Warhammer 40k fan community, the Grey Knights’ Nemesis Dreadknight is probably the most distinctive and recognisable model in their army roster. Purifiers recruit only from those amongst their battle-brothers whose souls are considered to be utterly incorruptible and resistant to the temptations of the Warp -- even by the incorruptible standards of the Grey Knights. So careful is the selection that there are seldom more than a few score Purifiers within the Chapter.

Grey Knights Terminators

Cleansing Flame - Purifiers can call on their purity, psychic gifts, and fanatical devotion to duty to create a nimbus of flame around themselves that burns all nearby enemies with white hot soul fire. When this power is manifested the Purifier bursts with white light and is momentarily surrounded by a corona of consecrated flame. The Purifiers then send forth the pure fire in their souls to consume their foes. Tide of Banishment– Daemon units within 6 inches of your units get -2 Leadership; you get +1 to hit and wound versus daemons. But these Grey Knights themselves carry into battle a daemonic sword called Antwyr. The Knight who carries it is the Warden of the Blade, and he spends his existence copying the insane ravings of the sword, while it is chained to him in battle to be sure it never corrupts anyone else. Just remember, some of what we’re talking about are rumors, so take them with whatever salt you feel necessary. Let’s get into it! How Big is Crowe Going to be? Before the Khornate Champion could charge, Crowe used a gift given to him by Geronitan for this very purpose: a vial of the crystallised tears of the Emperor Himself. The blessed tears consecrated the ground around Crowe, robbing Skulltaker of a measure of his power. Even with this advantage, it was all Crowe could do to counter the daemon's blows and resist the unholy strength powering them.

So this apparently will be the trend moving forward, where one side gets a new character and the other gets a bunch of new minis (in general). It seems like the Grey Knights are the side getting a new character, Crowe, considering their plastic minis are *only* ten years old (yes we know Marines get new stuff every year), but other factions usually don’t get updates that often. The rumors said the Grey Knights would be getting a Strike Squad, Dreadknight, and Crowe. So GW may have actually shown us their half of the box yesterday. If the rumors are true, you’re looking at the release for the Grey Knights right here, and a potential rescaling of their line is most likely not happening with this release.

Who are Warhammer 40k’s Grey Knights?

The other half of the box consists of the Infernal Master, along with five Scarab Occult Terminators, plus ten Tzaangors and a Tzaangor Shaman. That’s a lot of firepower and sorcery-slinging action in a small, elite force.

A Daemon Sword ancient beyond imagining, the blade first came to the attention of the Grey Knights during the latter years of the 37th Millennium, during the mad days of the Occlusiad.Warden of the Blade was fantastic, and while I haven't read any of the other Grey Knights novels, this one was an absolute joy to read. The Grey Knights themselves I felt were fairly fleshed out, and we got to see a lot of how they operate and think. That said, one of my main issues was that while Crowe and Sedrax were very well done characters, all the other Grey Knights were more or less one sided religious quotes. I think where the novel really shines for me personally is yet again Annandale's glorious depiction of Chaos. From the monstrous seeds of the Daemonic incursion up through the wild ride of the ecclesiarchal palace, Annandale's mind somehow always depicts Chaos in a very uniquely insane way that I just love to read. Tide of Convergence– 6 inches extra range on Psi weapons; one extra Mortal Wound on rolls of 6 to wound with Nemesis weapons. Following a squad of Purifiers, we travel to Sandava II, where an Ecclesiarch (pretty sure I butchered that) has been corrupted by a no longer so holy relic which acts as a conduit for a greater daemon of Slaanesh. The relic, a mask of unsurpassing beauty, soon corrupts the capital city, and the daemonic infestation spreads. The world had been almost depopulated after a year-long raid by the Drukhari, its billions of citizens reduced to a scattering of half-starved tribes hiding in the ruins of their once-proud cities. Skulltaker knew the planet was ripe for the Blood God and began a ritual to see it cast into the Warp where daemons would feast upon the souls of the living and dead alike.
