About this deal

Note: This is a partial list of China's major breweries. The vast majority of China's breweries serve only their local vicinity. Publically traded beer companies other than Tsingtao Brewery include Beijing Yanjing Brewery, Chongqing Brewery, Lanzhou Huanghe Enterprise and Xinjiang Hops. Blue Sword is quite popular in central and western China, particularly Sichuan. When poured correctly, this pale lager offers drinkers a golden color and pure white head, with floral aromatics that bring it to life. It features m edium carbonation and is usually paired with heavier and bolder meals. Of course Tsingtao is ideal when having a meal, so why not give it a try next time you are sitting down to some noodles, Spring Rolls, dumplings, or even that traditional Chinese favourite, curry chips! There is a growing consumer inclination towards less strong beer in China as health conscious millennials are seeking wholesome and lower caloric options in their choice of beer, and consumers who want low alcohol and healthier drinks are noted to be mainly young women. [17] According to a study by market intelligence agency Mintel, China has the highest amount of product launches of low or zero alcohol beer (below 3.5 percent ABV) in the Asia Pacific region in 2016, and over one in four (29 percent) beers launched in China in that year, were of low or non alcoholic beers. Qingdao Beers launched the first non-alcoholic beer in China in 2012 with its product, 'Qingdao 0.00', that is brewed from Czech hops and Australian barley. [18] [19]

Master Gao is recognised for producing flavourful Jasmine Lager, which can be found at a few establishments around the country. But it’s best to go right to the brewery itself, located in Xian. Another beer from the Jing-A Brewing Company, the Airpocalypse Double IPA, features a refreshing and complicated mixture of ingredients and flavors that make you reach for the bottle one more time. The beer is dry-hopped after the brewing process to give it its imperial character. In the wake of AB InBev’s Bud Light brand falling from favour, Heineken was also rumoured in May to be getting behind promoting Heineken Silver in the US, in an attempt to win over a bigger proportion of the market. According to Danwei P.B.R. has been reborn as “Blue Ribbon 1844" beer in China. It is advertised in magazines as a “world famous spirit” to be savored from a champagne flute. As a recent advertisement in Window of the South magazine put it: “It’s not just Scotch that’s put into wooden casks. There’s also Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer 1844. Many world-famous spirits Are matured in precious wooden casks Scotch whisky, French brandy, Bordeaux wine? They all spend long days inside wooden casks.” Chinese generally drink from smaller beer glasses, and downing a drink in one go rather than sipping is more common than in western countries. Hence the ‘ganbei’ guidance above is not necessarily applicable to the typically larger volume of western-style beer glasses. In 2008, a Chinese lager called Snow surpassed Bud Light to become the world's best-selling beer. The ascension of Snow is due to Snow’s popularity in China and to the growing thirst of Chinese drinkers for beer. [Source: Richard Wray, The Guardian November, 21, 2008]

Harbin Beer is available across northern China and is often enjoyed with the local cuisine. It has an extremely unique taste due to the mix of European and Chinese hops.Beer for the most part was introduced to China by the Western colonial powers, who introduced their regional tastes, with some adaptions for local preferences. Beer sales in China rose 29 percent between 2006 and 2011 to 50 billion liters, more than double the consumption in the United States, the next biggest market. Over the same period the value of the beer rose 63 percent to 454 billion yuan. It is estimated the value will rise 72.6 in the five years to 2016. Much of the rise is attributed to the rise of China’s middle class. [Source: The Times] In 1994 only four foreign beer companies had invested in China. In 1999, there were more than 60. Some have built breweries in China and splashed the country with advertising and marketing campaigns. First exported in 1954, the Tsingtao brand is now sold in over 60 countries and regions around the world and accounts for more than 50% of China’s beer exports. I tried it once before and couldn’t stand its bitterness. I think it’s because Kingway Beer is brewed by traditional German technology, it has more German flavor.
