Mediheal’s Soothing Moist Sun Essence is a sunscreen that has quite a unique texture. It squeezes out of the tube almost like a cross between a balm and a lotion. What I really like about this sunscreen is its moisturising properties as well as cooling sensation when you start to rub it into your skin—perfect for the hot weather in Singapore. It leaves a semi-matte effect at first, then becomes quite velvety as it sets, and it stays matte for most of the day. Honestly, I found a lot of the mineral sunscreens I tried this year to be pretty similar. Most of them were made in the same place (Kolmar Korea) and you can feel it! I find it a little heavy on the skin; it shows a bit under makeup. It’s not the smoothest I’ve tested. It leaves a natural “skin like” finish, and doesn’t especially mattify the skin but doesn’t accentuate my shiny skin areas too much during the day either.

The difference between the two products is mainly on the price: the Goodal is less expensive for a slightly larger size. It helps to blur pores and smooth the skin. And since it’s hydrating, it doesn’t emphasize dry skin areas. Actually, it’s also super pretty if you don’t wear makeup, by the way! Already done! I discovered it several months ago, and I’ve already emptied a whole tube. I love it! It’s super lightweight, pleasant to wear (you can barely feel it on the skin), it makes the skin look pretty with its smoothing/pore-blurring effect, it gently mattifies without drying the skin, it’s soothing, it doesn’t contain any alcohol or fragrance… In short, it’s perfect for me! Formulated with rice extract and grain probiotics, this sunscreen has a creamy but light formula that absorbs nicely into the skin (no annoying pilling or white cast!). This is also a good sunscreen to opt for if you have sensitive skin as it has a pretty gentle ingredient list. Plus, if your skin is already sensitive, it’s important to protect it from further sun damage. We all probably know that aloe vera is the way to go for treating sunburns, but we also know that prevention is better than cure. COSRX’s Aloe Soothing Sun Cream contains aloe arborescens extract that helps to soothe and protect the skin before those pesky UV rays even have a chance to do their damage.If I had to make a choice among the mineral sunscreens, I think that the Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Natural Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ Why not! It’s a great formula, rich in soothing, hydrating, anti-aging and antioxidant skincare ingredients. The texture is really nice to wear. It’s very lightweight on the skin, and with makeup. It’s a great makeup base if you have combination skin. The makeup applies really well over it and it helps it last longer throughout the day.

It’s a good makeup base, the foundation applies perfectly well over it. It does not prevent the skin from getting shiny during the day, though. Of course, the D’Alba Waterful Essence Sun Cream also contains white truffle extract, but that’s not all the antioxidant, plant-based goodness you can find in its silky-smooth formula! Fortunately, the fragrance fades after a few minutes. I don’t smell it all day long but I admit, I would prefer the formula didn’t contain any fragrance… In short, this is a great option if you don’t mind the scent! The D’Alba Waterful Essence Sun Cream with SPF50+ and PA++++ was one of the first sunscreens that got retested after the big sunscreen scandal in 2020, and it passed with flying colours. This isn’t too surprising, given that it was manufactured by Kolmar Korea, sunscreen manufacturer extraordinaire, and by now the manufacturing company behind almost every currently trending sunscreen from Korea.I used to hate using sunscreen because I wanted to avoid the grimy and heavy feeling on my face — on top of Singapore’s already killer humidity. That is until I discovered the wonders of Korean sunscreens. Many of them feel like skincare and even add a tinge of coolness to your skin as you apply them.

Maybe it’s the Asian in me, but I absolutely love when products contain rice. Skin1004’s Madagascar Centella Air-Fit Suncream Plus is a sunscreen that applies dewy then dries up into a semi-matte finish after a few minutes—so it’s perfectly balanced and doesn’t dry out your skin nor make it oily.

But in short, if you’re a fan of very nourishing and glowy sunscreens, my selection may not be a perfect match for you 😉 A Mild Formula with more than 100nm non-nano sun protection ingredients, the sunscreen doesn't absorb into the skin and is suitable for sensitive skin, including children. Many of its avid users like to layer it underneath their base makeup, kind of like a primer as it helps to provide a smoother application—and it doesn’t cake foundation either. I’m a bit divided. On one hand, I really like the formula, rich in skincare ingredients, and the texture, very fresh and pleasant. It’s a rather glowy product, but it remains subtle and natural. I don’t shine like a disco ball after a few hours. I have a lovely glow, let’s say 😉
