About this deal

Smith was just as excited about this round. He noted: “Some superb products that really encapsulates their alcoholic counterparts, balance of sweetness and sourness.” Alcohol free spirits are made through the distillation of botanicals, up to 35! These are then mixed to create the flavour, many of which now go past just imitating a gin, vodka or vermouth taste but instead create a whole new flavour! Across Europe drinks below 0.5% ABV are classed as alcohol free. In the UK drinks that are between 0.05% and 0.5% ABV are classed as non-alcoholic.

As we pass the halfway mark of Dry January, we’ve rounded up 10 stand-out low-and-no products that scooped up the top awards at our first Masters competition of 2023. Our judges gathered before Christmas to see what the low-and-no category had to offer Inspired by the biomes of the natural world, conservation biologist, bartender, and bar owner Paul Mathew created Everleaf drinks. Each Everleaf apéritif is crafted with sustainably sourced ingredients and designed to carry you to a specific place in nature: a crisp mountaintop, a lush forest, a refreshing Mediterranean landscape. The runaway popularity of low- and no-alcohol ‘spirits’ has led to a huge increase in brands and products entering the sector. And this influx appears to have led to a rise in quality. Low- and no-alcohol has risen in popularity as consumers seek lighter serves

The judges were impressed by Savoia Americano Rosso’s “rich and aromatic” notes on the nose, combined with it being “nicely bitter and herbal on the palate.”This zero-ABV version of a traditional cream liqueur was developed for sipping, and Kiely’s panel noted the “vanilla aroma, custard‐like”, and found the palate to be “well‐textured, indulgently creamy, and very good”. The most common process of making no and low ABV spirits is, actually, very similar to that used for alcoholic spirits — hence the similar price tag. The judges also awarded 12 Gold medals in this heat. Four Pillars Bloody Bandwagon was one of the Gold winners, enjoyed for its “sweet, red‐berry” nose, with a “good level of dryness and complexity on the palate – even when mixed with tonic water”.
