Georgie’s parents: I’m including Paul and Shyla in my list of Awesome Parents in Lit because they are the bomb dot com. That last bit about Georgie realising that her parents have always given her a soft place to land made me burst into tears Hello, familiar genre waters! "Returning from your high-powered job to your small hometown only to find love with the hot older brother of your former crush" is one of romance's tales as old as time. And something I really appreciated about Georgie, All Along is that - while it inspects and questions and deepens its own relationship to this well-trodden genre staple - you never get the sense that it's looking down on it, or denying why it attracts readers. I fell in love with the characters. I highlighted a few passages of Levi’s thoughts about Georgie and I also cried as life throws them a few hurdles. I read romance mainly for the heroes—a girl who’s perpetually single needs her fix from somewhere!—and what a hero Levi is

This is a book for plunging into, a river of feelings with an inescapable current. Even as you are swept away, you know Clayborn’s hand is safely on the tiller, steering you expertly through the rapids.” — New York Times Georgie, used to putting others' needs first after working as a demanding assistant, now feels a sense of emptiness. She has no idea what the future holds and has forgotten how to make choices for herself. When she finds her teenage fiction filled with her younger self's ideas, she sees it as a sign and a new guideline for her future. I need to reread the other books later to further support my statement but Levi is my favourite Kate Clayborn hero now (soz, Aiden!) Constantly revealing new layers of lyricism… Love at First is poetry, then — sometimes an artful sonnet, other times halting free verse. But it's never anything short of miraculous.” —Entertainment Weekly, Grade A for Love at FirstWhen I tell you I wasn't expecting to get an ARC of this book, I mean that I genuinely didn't think the universe would be so kind to me after punching me in the face repeatedly this year. I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn Georgie and Levi's romance is Kate Clayborn at her absolute best, and keep in mind that her worst is still legions above everyone else. There's so much tension, and so much work done in trusting each other and confronting each other's demons and learning to move forward. Clayborn explores the experience of falling in love in a Chicago apartment building in a contemporary romance that will resonate with city dwellers and rural readers alike…A superb cast of characters rounds out this sweet, slow-burn romance.” —Booklist on Love at First

Perfect for Emily Henry fans. [This] is the love story that proves you can go home again . . . so rich and wonderful’ JULIA QUINN on The TODAY Show Eighteen-year-old Mallory Greenleaf is no longer interested in chess, not since her hypercompetitive dad left—the game calls up painful memories. But she grudgingly agrees to play in a charity tournament as a favor to best friend Easton Peña. After she unexpectedly beats current world champion Nolan Sawyer, she’s offered a fellowship that will prepare her to play professionally. Even though Mallory doesn’t want to play anymore, she needs the money that winning would provide; she’s delayed college to support her family, since her mother is chronically ill with rheumatoid arthritis and is unable to work regularly. The more time she spends with Nolan, the more Mallory comes to like and respect him—and the more time she spends playing chess, the more she remembers how much she loved it. But when she learns that Nolan has been keeping a big secret from her, she isn’t sure if she’ll be able to move past it to build a relationship with him. Filled with the author’s signature humor, well-developed characters, and realistic conflicts, plus the fully realized setting of competitive chess, this captivating romance will delight teen readers as well as Hazelwood’s adult fans. Mallory and Nolan are both cued white; there is some racial diversity among the supporting cast. Mallory and Easton are queer.Georgie, All Along is my first read + first 5 STAR for the new year, woohoo! What a promising start to 2023 – love this for me Love Lettering does much more than just give us a cute love story. The novel isn't just about love—it's about communication both in romantic relationships and in friendships." — Hypable on Love Lettering But then Georgie comes across a forgotten artifact—a "friendfic" diary she wrote as a teenager, filled with possibilities she once imagined. To an overwhelmed Georgie, the diary's simple, small-scale ideas are a lifeline—a guidebook for getting started on a new path.

For instance: you know that scene in The Hating Game, when Lucy defends Joshua from his awful father? There’s a (few) similar moment(s) in this book, and that whole trope, or whatever you want to call it, is just chef’s kiss on chef’s kiss on chef’s kiss. Levi’s familial troubles are painful to read about, but Georgie’s unending support for him (and his perfect dog, Hank!), to the point where she’d happily go to battle for him, is such a tender, wonderful thing to behold.

Need Help?

Gorgeously written, full of complex characters, and friendships as strong as the central romance — all Clayborn staples.” – Bookriot These two are authentic and honest with one another and are prepared to give each other time and space when they need it. I loved that Levi is able to really see Georgie when others – even those closest to her – aren’t always able to, and that while Georgie always calls Levi on his bullshit she’s never aggressive or unkind. She doesn’t push him for more than he’s comfortable sharing but also makes it clear why she’s calling him out and that she wants to understand and help if she can. They both make mistakes – Levi, in particular, makes some choices I wasn’t happy about – but when they do, they take responsibility for them and do their best to fix them.
